I fitted another Ohlins, on this latest TDM900 and went for a spin
Not the same Ohlins as before though. This one was an Ebay find, I was nervy about it, but the seller said they would accept a return. It works fine, lots of gas, which hopefully translates to lots of life
Â
The 'other' Ohlins is another story. The top bush was split and started to ease itself out of the top eye. I spoke to Ohlins who put me in touch with their local specialist, because they wouldn't deal directly with me.
Â
I dropped it off back in March to get a new top bushing at ERS racing (ex Knockhill race circuit) , The proprietor, is a great guy, we agreed that as I was not in a rush he would wait till he had a batch of parts to be ordered from Germany, in order to split the delivery charge across orders.
After a month, I found out there had been some customs issues and the package was returned.
Â
After another month (and after the spring had been powder coated) I was told the part was on it's way. No bother.
Â
It should have been ready last week, but when Eddie of ERS opened up the shock to give it a wee service it appears to have been abused, the shims weren't great but the worst damage was to the inside of the shock tube, the coating was scratched up. A new tube is out of stock. So it sits in Dunfermline, waiting for a new tube, hurry up Ohlins !
Â
I'm going to end up with two good Ohlins rear shocks, so one will be up for sale. Either my recent good Ebay one with black spring, or a fully rebuilt unit with new shims, tube , top bush and freshly coated yellow spring (Both springs are one step up on standard strength, for the larger chaps)..
Â
When the rebuilt one comes back I'll post a message in the for sale section
