I believe gas will get to the carbs so long as you have gravity on your side. When the tank is in place, even if your pump has gone bad, it will work until the fuel level drops low enough it can't make it to the carbs on their own. So if you are balancing your carbs, if you still have the tank connected, it may not be high enough to get fuel to the carbs without assistance from the pump. The only way I can really manage it on mine is with a separate fuel supply suspended above the carbs.Â

Someday, I plan to install T-fittings to remote the vacuum lines to be able to balance the carbs a little easier. But "someday" never seems to come . . .
