The skilled dealer is able to use the marked card throughout the narrative as a reference point and is able to cut the pack relative to this card
I wouldn't be surprised if the system requires that other cards be marked during the storyline

Also the dealer makes a great show of shuffling the cards, but I think I detect him putting them together and taking them apart as they were.
