Are There Any Bikers Left
on a trip to Applecross i broke down on my tdm at the end of some roadworks just coming into fort william i counted 63 bikes pass and only one stopped to see if i was ok .

think i had problems was obvious seat fairings and tank off so not just stopped for the view

i had no spark just broke and made all the connector's  put it back together and it has been running great since it was very hot stuck in the roadworks for some time had just manually switched on the fan so maybe heat related.

i know a lot of people with bikes are not mechanically minded but the offer of a phone water lift etc. can be done by anyone

i would  always stop to see if i can help

rant over

PS roads were awesome as always

Sad news that, but, on the other hand, I was stopped checking out overheated rear disc (not tdm)...(and expected!) the other day, and first bike along stopped to offer assistance. Nice guy on a 995i tiger. So, yes, they're out there!! Glad you got sorted, and yes, love the roads up there!!
Lock onto my co-ordinates and beam me up !!

04 900 - 92 mk 1 - r 1150 rs - Z550 A1 - 2x bonnies - plastic slug -XL185 - ...not in that order !! (and one or two i don't want / dare to own up to !!)
That sucks, I have always stopped to check someone beside the road with a bike unless they look comfily resting on the seat with a ciggy in their gob.

I would hope anyone would do the same for me.

Shame on them but I guess it's an old school thing.

Save the planet, it's the only one with beer!
I'll always stop to help out a fellow biker if they look to be in trouble.  Even if it's just to get them some fuel or give 'em a bump start.  I stopped on a bridge recently and two bikers passed both jesticulating to ask if I'm ok.  Thumbs up and a nod from me and they were on their way. A cup of coffee wudda been nice though. Big Grin
thanks for all the replies wouldn't expect anything less of our members here

i think there are a lot for whom its a fashion statement not all but a proportion

ps spotted a yellow TDM900 later on anyone here

Yeah some riders.........you've been unlucky.

I'd stop no matter when/where/weather/language/backpatch-colours or not.

I'm considering buying a BM trouble you just to be the exception Lol

My rear brake hose blew 15 miles after leaving home for Scotland on the A404.

Someone said on here brake fluid has a low boiling point. It sure does as there was smoke billowing out from around the exhaust.

Trucker stopped with a large extinguisher along with at least 2 cars. They were there for me.

I have stopped to help out vintage Vespa riders in my time.

I've heard of GS's boiling their rear brake whilst descending the alps passes.

I gave one a bump start a few years ago whilst on my way to a bike nite.  Turned out I'd done his missus a favour as she usually rocked up in their van.  Lol

Ah yeah, the blinging Bandit whose rider totally denied losing it on gravel.  He'd put a hole in the cylinder head where an oilfeed pipe connector resided and was trying to screw the broken fitting back in.  I even gave him my half litre bottle of mk1 top up oil.  Poor guy had spent loads of wonga on customising it and then trashed it on his first rideout of the year.  He and his mate ended up pushing it about a mile to the pondy iirc.

Poor bugger, know how he feels  Huh

Years ago, my chain snapped, a fellow biker stopped, went home, and got a split link, and i rode off happy as can be. I have never forgotten this, and always stop, and see what i can do. Once i stopped ( when in the car) the chap said, the tyres flat mate, there isn’t anything you can do, i can get my trailer, and take you home i said.. he declined, and carried on pushing it.. he must have thought i was up to no good.. but I wasn’t, just trying to help

If I'm in my van, I'd just drop the ramps out and take it home for yer.
Some years back when my reg/rec failed and cooked the battery on my Mk1, I had several bikes and a Volvo stop to check I was ok.  One bike even went past, turned round up the road and came back as he said by the time he saw me it was too late to stop Big Grin

Since I've had the Niner I've never broken down though.

I stopped for a group of bikes near llangollen, two of which had slid and rear ended a Porche. We managed to get every sorted with gaffer tape and cable ties I was carrying. They waved me off, one calling..."thankyou captain cable tie".....I wonder how they knew??

Sad news that, I stop if I can and I've had others stop when I've had a breakdown. A few years ago, I came across a GSX-R rider, pushing his steed, with a broken front wheel rim. He admitted he'd made an error braking for a corner and hit the kerb. A mate of mine had a van and we weren't far from his place, so I offered to ring him and see if he could pick the stricken bike up. But the GXS-R rider declined and said he wanted to push it the two miles to his home to punish himself for the mistake!  :rotflmmfao:

Few years back awaiting the return ferry from the IOM TT.

German bikers near to us and one of them holding his bike screen.

Couldn't quite work out what had happened but he was stuck.

Hold on I said and looking in my tank bag had the 7 screen bolts he needed.

He went on his way a happy man.
