I've recently bought a 1999 TDM850 as my first big bike. I spent a bit of time looking at Suzuki V-Stroms, but couldn't get one as cheap as I wanted and came across a few TDMs for sale. A bit a research and I now own one.
Â
I've spent a bit of time browsing the forum already, and thought I'd better say hi!
Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.
Now then.. Greetings from Ilkley, West Yorks, from the proud new owner of a '98 TDM 850 in blue, 1 previous and 9500 on the clock, guv.... Â Not yet out on the road (for a variety of reasons) but looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about. Meanwhile, taking the opportunity for a spot of up-farkling (2-1 'zorst, scottoiler, heated grips etc).Â
Mostly this'll get used for my 56 mile round trip to work but who knows, it could be the start of something wonderful...Â

Best do it right !!!!! only just found this HELLO BIT !!!
Â
 So here goes
Â
Names Phil, a Brit ( Carnforth Lancashire) but living in SW France for the past 11 years normally ride thumpers Maroc , Pyrenees and the Balkans off road...
Â
Been riding allsorts for a loooooong time but picked up a 1999 TDM850 a month or so back and proper blown away , always like the 850 styling but never rode one ......................loveing it up to now , done 2 or 3k kms and the only not so good point is a little lumpy round town !!! but not the end of the world
Â
Bike fits me a treat 5'9" but just needs bar raisers for me ......................i'll ask here .......will 20mm raisers fit straight on with original cables ????
Phil, you should just have enough slack to fit the risers. You could also drop the yokes by 10mm, it'll quicken up the steering and lower the seat slightly as well as offering you more slack on the cables.
names Ryland, based in swansea . just bought a 92 tdm 850 3vd , cosmetically a little rough but the bike is sound, just a few little jobs to sort like binding brakes  but so far so good...just need to take it for a long spin to see how i get on with it
Â
just one question, which 17 inch front wheel is a straight swap for the 18 inch on it ?

Looks good, dont really think you need a 17" on the mk1, raise the forks a tad, well good enough :good:
