Morning all,
thought i'd better say Hi, Names Tom, living just outside of Nottingham at present and last night i put a deposit down on a "H" plate TDM 850. I'm trading up from an XTZ660 that i've been using for commuting duties for nearly three years now.
I'm old enough to remember reading the first test reports in "BIKE" and deciding then that one day i'll own one.
I pick it up on saturday afternoon and am looking forward to it.
I'll have a trawl through the forum as i'll be after recommendations for a new front tyre and info on whether i can trasnfer the Nonfango topbox and mounting plate across from my XTZ.
SFSR good choice of bike mate and if it's red it's a fast one,,, ya can fit the nonfango although you may have to change a few bits,,, exhaust clearance could be your main problem depending whats on ya bike.

I live in Derbyshire, and just moved to TDM 900 from Honda Hornet (hence the name) So far so good, however the weather's been so bad that I've not had much chance to really get going. I've just posted a question about which touring screen? Any thoughts?
Hi Hornet,
looks like the TDM is becoming pretty popular around Notts/Derby area
It weren't you that pulled up next to 2 TDM's at the A1 Blyth services, had a quick chat, with you singing about the niceyness of Moose's Black TDM900, was it ?
You had a blue face 'cos ya got no screen, if it was

not ruled out owning another one yet though.
35 years old from Podgorica, Montenegro. Found a nice TDM 900, 2008, with 9000 km and ABS. Looking for an advice what I might expect if I decide to buy it, and later on hopefully meeting some of you on roads.

Welcome!
I have a 2008 abs with 6.5k miles so almost identical. I love it, but as with all things it's personal taste. The only downer with a 900 is the wind noise. Also, you'll need either an axle stand of need to buy a main stand as they don't come s standard. apart from that an easy bike to live with. Good fuel consumption - I get 60mpg taking it fairly easy and well in the 50s autobahn type cruising. There are lots of bit you might want to do but that's the same with any bike. They're a good all round bike for street, touring or, change the tyres, and go off road. You'll get plenty of help from this forum too.

This are my concerns and plans:
When riding longer than 1 hour, I start feeling pain at very end of my spine. This happened with my old bike, KLE 500, as well as with V-Strom DL650 which I intended to buy (although not nearly as much with the KLE). It seemed to me that the TDM offers slightly more sporty body posture (more bended towards front wheel) which will reduce pressure on the end of the spine and reduce pain.... Anyway, on longer travels, I will be with my wife. We do not foresee much highway usage, as I live in very mountainy country with no highways...
List of gadgets I would like to add to the TDM - 12V socket, heated grips, hand protectors (probably the one from DL650, I like them), MRA spoiler, side panniers (Givi E41), central stand, Scottoiler and Givi crashbars.... I think that's about it
I've just put the DL650 handguards on my 2009 ABS this morning, needed to drill out the thread the original clutch bolt screws in to, and open out the holes in the end of the handguards to fit the bar end weights though, but other than that they're a good fit.
Centre stand is well worth it, the cabling for the ABS sensor runs along the bottom of the swing arm so I couldn't use my old paddock stand which had cups that go under the swing arm, was going to bet an ABBA stand but decided a centre stand made more sense. Still need to fit a power socket on mine but plan to go the the idea ET came up with and fit it inside the side panel. http://www.carpe-tdm.net/ipb/index.php?sho...c=673&st=40
