I would concur. I use my multi tool sander for detail work. Exceedingly effective! The velcro hooks on the iron shaped pad for sandpaper wear if you let them get hot but a replacement is cheap.

Never had much luck with orbital sanders, finish is always inconsistent. Belt sanders are scary and dig trenches if you don't pay attention. My fav for flat surfaces is a big vibrating sander, same principle as the multi tool.

I have Bosch (multi tool), hitachi, metabo and makita. The makita is my least fav. All my green Bosch tools take a beating and seem well designed and built. I probably do more sanding with the multi tool than the rest put together.

A belt sander is really only for preparing wood for making furniture. Not an easy tool to use but indispensible for its purpose - after much practice. A metal plate wood scraper could be useful.

If she is sanding down old furniture for painting a palm sander would be useful.
I used a Black and Decker mouse to sand my garden bench. It worked fine.

Our elderly neighbour accidentally sat on it. Took 2 hours to prise her off . She's bought one herself and seems to be doing an awful lot of sanding in her bedroom.
