Got a little bit caught in all that crap on Monday afternoon / evening on the way back from a weekend at centre parcs Longleat.
We got to the M3 ok but from there to the Fleet services took us 3hrs, snow, slush, black ice etc. etc.
Phoned the in-laws in Basingstoke to see what the weather was like and got told there was a bit of snow! we reluctantly decided to carry on home rather than stop and pick up the Christmas prezzies because we where running late ( that turned out to be a good decision!).
Crawling along the M3 on tick over in second, I glanced at the other carriageway and there was a suicidal looney guy on a Motorbike travelling west!
Still can't decide whether that was bravery, desperation or stupidity?
The local radio was telling of people stuck for 6 hours going nowhere.
We stopped at Fleet for a snack and a wee, and got home from there to south London in an hour?
Crazy night.
These ear single track lanes on masseeve gradients are great fun.
I got reverse overtaken by a BMW yesterday sliding back down the hill I were goin up. At last something this pile of poo slug god awful car is good at. Not enough power to spin on ice.
Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.
My unlce spent 3 hours stuck on the same bit of motorway Mick. Apparently about 2000 people had to abandon thier cars in Basingstoke. A mate of mine took 3 hours to do 8 miles near farnham, and another mate had similar trouble near Camberley. I live half way in between those 2 and hardly had any snow and there was no traffic trouble. Weird.

Sounds like the conditions we had here last saturday morning... glad I stayed in bed.
Sudden drop of 4 to 6 inches of snow, but first it covered all the roads in 'black ice' just for fun.
I got caught in a blizzard after work Sunday night.
Snow on the road and visor full of snow and frozen breath mist. So, I flip it up and discover the sensation of snow flakes the size of 50 pence pieces hitting my face at 20mph.
Just been out in it again , strictly for education purposes, and it's one day of school I wished I'd played truant on.
Gritted roads ,slush everywhere. Frozen junctions, and frozen toes. A mentally challenging couple of hours all told.
I need a sig. indeed with plenty of frickin polish
Been bad here in the East Riding...6 days and no griting in our village...cancelled our xmas visit to my daughters in the Trough of Bowland. they have been snowed in for 2 days
There is something about an empty carpark full of snow that brings out the inner boy racer in you. Power slids & hawnies in the Polo

I do that at every opportunity, or at least till the H&S nazis chuck me off, it's the only form of skid pan training I can afford and it does pay off.

Yeah
On the whole I think from Basingstoke north up to Oxford and most of the M4 were pretty much fecked!, some poor buggers were there for 10 hours, and I believe there are still abandoned cars littering the A339
We passed , I think it was Houndmills roundabout? we could see it from the M3 and people were pushing cars round it, well sort off . so we decided to go on home.
Bro in law at Odiham wondered what all the fuss was about? they had little or no snow.
monday night was a nightmare for me, you should have seen my Facebook updates
2 hours to get out of the industrial estate in Hemel, all coz the M25, M1 and A41 were fecked and 7 hours to get home to oxford
A41 wasnt gritted and most cars were getting stuck on the hills
sheet ice, blizzard conditions and lots of horse i must be a sick freak coz i really enjoyed it
if i hadnt had 4WD i wouldnt have got home, once i got past the traffic on the A41 i had one of the most exhilerating drives i've ever had
i'm just off the north of the Oxford ringroad and there was almost nothing this side of M40

Must admit I wondered how u and hoolie were faring, I thought you'd started working in London already.
I know what you mean by exhilarating 2nd gear and only ticking over was quite enough for me
on the A41 the road was complete sheet ice
abandoned crashed out cars, stuck trucks and wheel spinning beemers(and other miscelanious 2WD vehicles) everywhere
in the end there were 3 or 4 landrover type vehicles, me in the scooby and some crazy guy in an audi, no one else made it up the hill
but then the snow was so deep i had to keep up with a landy or i would have been stuck
the snow was coming up in a bow wave over the bonnett every so often, if i slowed down below 40mph i started to get stuck as the landy pulled away
at times the guy was doing 60-70mph thru the snow and ice
eventually the audi dropped back, dunno if he got stuck or bottled it, but didnt want to stop to find out incase i got stuck
i wished i'd had a heart rate monitor fitted......
ps. you should see the state of the front bumper, its scratch to feck after being blasted by the snow

I had a wee situation were I got the Polo stuck on compacted snow (i wasn't the only one) I had a shovel with me but the snow was really compacted & was taking a long time to go no where I also thought the others were watching thinking they would use my tracks so I thought fook that remembering I had some 3/8 rope in the boot, I took it out & wrapped it around the front wheels to make an inpromtu snow chain. Jumped back in the car & managed to get up the hill no probs, looking back at the suckers trying to use my half dug tracks
