Google Street View
Just thought I'd share this with you. I’m stuck in the office overnight, working on a software implementation and I’ve an hour or so dead time while I wait for someone else to do their bit. I’ve been surfing Google Street View, not great coverage in the UK yet, but Derby, Nottingham and Sheffield are covered, cities I spent many of my formative years in. In Derby I did my Gas Engineer apprenticeship at Derby Technical College and the British Gas depot on Deadman’s Lane. At Long Eaton Training Centre I did my industrial and commercial training and all the safety and emergency evacuation procedures we had to do. At Sheffield I worked at the British Gas depots at Earl Street and Upwell Street for a few years.
On Street View, Derby Technical College and British Gas depot are gone, replaced by smart looking offices. In Sheffield both depots are demolished and both now look like industrial wasteland. And The Long Eaton building is now a spanking new Tesco Extra! Pretty depressing really, so many memories crushed by the wheels of progress.

As some of you know we live in the middle of (very beautiful) nowhere. We have no street names, no numbers and no postcodes and our house is in a field between two beaches. 3 months ago we were surprised to see the Google camera car driving along our lane and all the other lanes near us. If they are coming out to look at where we live they are taking this very seriously!

There are a few amusing finds on streetview, including a TDM doing a wheelie away from the lights somewhere in london, can't find the link though.

suppose it depends which way the car was travelling, but go back from the junction a bit and zoom in and you get a peachy shot
