Chainsaw
A pile that size of Eucalypt Hardwood would be about 1 and 1/2 Tonne (1500kg) which would fit in my old wood ute (1973 Toyota Hilux) but would probably break it.

BTW what sort of wood do you blokes use for Firewood.

Here in California we favor apricot and almond mostly, due to the fact that we're stripping out the orchards for vineyards. In Tennessee where I used to cut the stuff it was oak and hickory, both of which would dull a chain pretty quickly, particularly the hickory. Hickory is amazing fuel - weighs next to nothing and burns like napalm for a good long while - never seen any other wood like it.
i loike ca.. err ash, oak and beech but oil burn anyting in me woodburner including orphan lambs.

I find Lambs clog the Flue,
I once got a load of old Railway sleepers to burn, when I tried cutting with the chainsaw I cooked the chain and a brand new Bar, they where Ironbark one of the hardest woods in the world and seasoned for about 90yrs, I ended up using them as a garden feature

where i live i am surrounded by forests so there is plenty of choice especially after a storm . btw can any one tell me if there is any truth in that you can salvage wood with a bush man but not a chain saw or is this an old wifes tale around these parts , also there is a lot of wood clearing by the companies so there is plenty of off cuts

As ChrisG says 1 cord = a stack 4ft high x 4ft wide x 8ft long which = 128 cu ft. My 6 cords = 768 cu ft of oak & beech! Jeeze no wonder I was fit then. Not only did I have to cut it but also collect it from different parts of the forrest up to 15 miles away down narrow awkward tracks.
I think the verderers (those responsible for cutting & stacking the wood rights) deliberately made it difficult to encourage people to give up the rights. My kids & I used to treat it as a bit of an adventure.

Get A Stihl, they are good quality and there are plenty of stockists.
I got a 14" MS210 and it does just about everything for me. A bigger saw would be useful occasionally but not often.
Stay safe most of all.

Funny enough I was using my Power Devil Electric chainsaw at the week end to cut down the last of 7 leylandii trees in my back garden, whilst logging the fallen tree my chain saw desided it had had enough. Smoke, funny smell then a final Pop! at that was it. But for the £50 it cost me it has earned its keep.
I was only using the helmet with eye sheild & ear defenders & CS gloves, but felt paranoid a F*** when using the CS.
One think I think is mad though if my brother hires out a CS (works at MPH) he has to see a CS operators card were the likes of myself could walk into a large cash & carry & buy 2 CS no questions asked!!!!
