I tend to agree that we'd shouldn't end up all Daily Wail over this, however unless Yamaha have introduced crumple zones that bike was in a pretty high speed impact. The rider may have wobbled over the centre line at 20mph, or he piled into the corner way too quick. The only thing that isn't speculation is the damage to the bike. Whatever happened it's a bit scary that this guy was heading for a trackday, when he should have been on his way to a Bikesafe course.

Berks on bikes have been responsible in part for the widespread introduction of a 50mph limit across the Peak district and are the primary cause of the average speed cameras over the Cat and Fiddle. It very hard to defend the action of the large numbers of weekend warriors. One car driving colleague was appalled by the antics of the bikes when he drove over the hills to near Hawes a couple of weekends ago. Now some of that is his inexperience with driving on roads with a lot of bikes - even on a TDM you can easily surprise a tootling driver, but it can't account for everything he saw.

I've nothing against sportsbikes per se but I'm not sold on the notion that the UKs obsession with sportsbikes ensures there is a bike industry for all the other bike riders to benefit from. It is a complex situation but what seems to killing smaller dealers and independents is the drop in the need for servicing, and consumables with fewer and fewer miles being done on more reliable bikes.

Even if they are holding up the industry single handedly that shouldn't excuse the stupid riding. Our opinions are coloured by our own experiences and on the whole mine are average at best. It's these antics that mean I don't use all the fabulous roads in my area very much. So, all in all, forgive me if I think the matey with the R1 seems a bit of a plank and that he's not the only one.
