Black Grippy Stuff Options
Howdy all, hope you are all well well and riding!

The 'best' Mk1 has ye again had an extended holiday in the garage since last July when the MOT ran out and the battery went flat. I then proceeded to have a stressful 6 months, so she got put on the back burner (again lol), but now is the time to dust off the cobwebs and get er gorn.

So, battery on the way, BUT she needs new boots for the MOT. The set on there are Michelin Pilot Road 2s that Trevini fitted for me in 2014! YES, 2014.  :hide:

I am quite amazed at how little option there seems to be for my tyre sizes on the market:

Front is 110/80 ZR 18

Rear is  150/70 ZR 17

My question therefore is, does anybody have any particular recommendations? I'm looking for something hard wearing, but grippy, something that will aid confidence in all weathers, and hopefully not on the too spenny side of things. I don't mind going away from Michelin - was kinda hoping to have the new Road 6s, but the size options just aren't there. Not on the Michelin website or the Demon Tweeks one at least.

the reason i put on a 17" front wheel to fit the Road 6's

"As I Lay Rubber down to street, I pray for traction I can keep. But if I skid and begin to slide, please dear god protect my ride"

Mods; Oil pressure switch, neoprene rear inner mudguard, scottoiler, highway pegs,  fenda extenda, 1999 carbs and airbox, Kais suspension setup, later clutch springs, LED lamps, Metmachex swingarm, Hagon Shock, Oxford heated grips, 4 way fused accessory Bus, 17" 3CV front wheel, Michellin R6 tyres, GPS speedo, 5' ignition advance.
I always fitted Michelins, but last year tried Bridgestone BT023. I would definitely buy them again
Bridgestone T31s/32s are a good choice for the money. I fitted some to Daniel’s a while before he sold it.

I’m a huge fan of the RoadSmart 4 Dunlops, but I’d have to check if they do them in your sizes. I’m easily getting 10-12k out of the rear and I’ll let you know about the front when it eventually wears out (currently on almost 17k, but just under 2mm tread left). I ran Michelin Roads prior to that, but found they cup quite badly and are a little prone to punctures.

All of those are brilliant in the wet. Shout if you need them fitted Glen, it’d be nice to see you and have a catch up.

edit: two-tyres have the RoadSmart 4s in stock in your sizes. https://twotyres.co.uk/product/dunlop-roadsmart-4/

I run a 17" front wheel on my 900, the last 2 tyre changes I have had these fitted Metzeler Z6,

I cannot fault them and £165 a pair even better, tyres really are expensive nowdays

(they don't make a 18" front)

Thank you all muchly for your help and suggestions. I'm going to have a toss up between the Bridgestones and Dunlops and then go from there.

Thank you Trev, that would always be splendid, and I just may very well do that. Ill whip the wheels off.
No worries Glen, you have my number mate :-)
