Put it back Rob and see if it solves your problem, could be just coincidence, there's a good guide on here to freeing up the cold start and it's easy to do..dont know that the csm has electrics involved....sure it's just a wax plunger type.

There are no electronics in the cold start mechanism - purely a wax plunger pushing the bar to the plungers

I've just done the mod (pin 8 removal). Brilliant! A lot smoother pick up at low revs.

I just clicked on the link above and it's worked for me.

The pipe is the one into the actuator ( the round metal thing ) on top of the airbox. Lift the tank and its obvious.. I blocked the pipe with a suitable bolt.Â
Â
The alternative would be to pull pin 8 out of the ECU.You don't need to do both.
