Non Starting TDM
I changed the plugs on the TDM on Saturday, got it all running nicely on the sparkly new NGK iridium plugs, put it on the Optimate to charge up as I've been doing a lot of running with the headlamp on recently

Fired it up briefly on Sunday, all hunky dory. Started up very willingly, so I thought job done.

This morning it just didn't want to know. Plenty of oomph in the battery to turn the motor over, but all I got was a backfire from time to time. Suspiciously, there was no sound from the fuel pump, which you can usually hear ticking as it fills the carb float bowls. Also suspiciously, it didn't flood either as I gave it plenty of choke.

Fuses all look OK and as the pump is on the ignition circuit anyway, that's unlikely to be the problem. It's not a quick job to change the plugs so that was the limit of the diagnosis so far. The fact that I can get a backfire seems to indicate there is a spark somewhere. Compression seems OK when pushing the bike round in gear.

Bum. I dislike problems like this.

What does the team think? Fuel pump a likely problem?

I will put back the old plugs tonight to see if that's an issue but it seems odd that two brand new plugs go titsup.com so suddenly.

Mark.
Do not use the choke... I learned that the same way.
As far as today i`ve only used it once after that time. And three days ago it was around 5 degrees outside as I started up.
I`ve also been told that when you use the choke, do not use more than 1/2 choke and no throttle.

Cant remember the last time i used the choke plus if i did it would back fire with it opened a quarter same thing on the thundercat i use to have, so dont bother with it now plus i think im doing more to the mpg now last time it was 51 when checked on the trip meter
