Born Between '49 & '79 ?

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1950's, 60's and 70's!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets on our heads.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

Riding on the back of a flat bed truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon.. we drank Cream Soda made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight.

WHY?

Because we were always outside playing...that's why!

In the holidays and at weekends we would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes.
There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms. WE HAD FRIENDS

And we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Football teams had tryouts and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.
Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law as unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

If YOU are one of them?
CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulate so much of our lives for our own good .

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?

Have you ever played Gran Turismo on the playstation Gdog ?
Well, that brought back happy memories. Smile Those were the days. Perhaps that generation was blessed or summat - no wars, real freedoms and, when the time came, jobs most of the time. Low crime for most too. Never to be seen again. :dunno:

brought up on a farm in the 60s and 70s ,drove tractors and combines as an early teenager , it was a mixed farm with arable ,cattle,, and berries and potatoes so that was the school holidays all fixed , at harvest time i had to follow the bailer and build the bales into blocks of seven , evenings were spent catching chickens in the broiler houses for the chicken abattoir, my last school holidays were spent working there for 6 weeks sitting on a barrel cutting chicken throats, no automatic cutters in them days , the school cleaners went on strike so we had a 2 or 3 day school week , off days i would spend running up and down berry drills with great lenghts of wire to hold up the stalks ,my father was the cattler so i helped with the feeding of the cattle , barrows of sillage 3 times a day and then bring in bales of straw for bedding , no tractors with buckets or long tines for the bales, and still had time for football with my brothers and ,hide in the bales with the farmers daughter but THAT is another story

No time for such frivolity Studders.

But I do have to endure the profanities and stomping of my 18 year old lad when on his X-Box 360 Live and I quote a "twatt" in Mexico hiding behind a wall effin "takes him out" :rotflmmfao: , not for me, you ?

Best bit is one of the two chaps in my original post was gob smacked when I managed to get the TDM stripped and rebuilt in 4 months, he has a Ford Capri 2.8 X-pack in bits and has been that way for 4 years I've worked with him as he just can't find the time to get in the garage !!! No he won't if he spends any spare minutes killing insurgents in bloody Vietnam Huh

me & the wife struggled to keep our laughter at bay when we returned from shopping and the bloke next door was having sky fitted... the bloke who was fitting the sky dish had full body harness , hard hat , gloves and the dish was below there bay window [ about 5ft off the floor] he could have used a stool ...health & safety gone mad ..

Reminds me of a programme on Radio 2 a while back on the subject of health "n" safety gone mad, basically it was the usual phone in jobbie and a chap was parked up in the rest area of a service station on the M6 I think it was and he had just observed an Armed Forces convoy drive in, jump out of there lorries in full Cammo gear I might add, wearing bloody Hi-Vis vests !!!! :rotflmmfao: WTF ?

That's a bit out, I was born in '73 and we did have video games as a kid, a mate had an Atari with Pong on it, we thought it was fantastic

These days we actually use computer games to train people to do real life tasks, and the kids these days are so used to playing on their xbox and the like that this is a real controller for a Desert Hawk UAV currently in service in Afghanistan

and spending time posting email spam on a motorcycle is different how?

We had an Atari 2600 when I was a kid with pong, breakout, tank, then a few years later we got hi-tech with space invaders and pac-man, pretty much for as long as I can remember there has been a games machine in my life, Atari, then onto a commodore first with a C16 upgrading to a C64 and C128 then onto early IBM PCs and I was born in 72
Born in '62 and we missed out on video games as kids. What better excuse do I need ! Lol

Used to walk/run/walk a mile to a mates' house to see if he was coming out to play, sometimes at exactly the same time as he had walked/ran/walked off to my house. Rolleyes Walked to school and back EVERY day, a mile each way.

We climbed everything climbable. Big Grin Swam in the local quarry pond/canal/river/woteva. Camped up near the local woods at weekends. Used to lend my pushbike to others who couldn't afford one, and borrowed others' when mine was broken.

Parents used to shout you in if you were late, no-one owned watch but ya still got a clip round the ear !

We even played in shite Smile

At a place I'm working at management aren't allowed to give employees a bollocking for messing up it's considered unethical!! :locco:

And which Generation has brought this upon their Children ? yes the Baby Boomers, the very people who whinge about it the most, the Boomers are the people at the top of the pile making the decisions that inflict all of this sort of crap on all of us.

BTW I was born in 1960
