Basic Video Editing Software - hallrob1 - 18-07-2022

Can anyone recommend some basic video editing software either for a Windows laptop or Android tablet?

 

My riding buddy has splashed out on a bike camera and has hours of footage from our recent Scotland trip to cut down into viewable chunks. I've offered to help out but don't want any special effects or filters, just to be able to save in shorter files.

 

 

He's obviously learning the basics  ie you don't need to be recording as soon as you put your lid on......................but would be helpful if we could both chop out the dross from his epics, maybe even while we're away.

 

A free option was obviously my first choice but there doesn't seem to be anything that doesn't leave a watermark or am I mistaken? 

 

This is another bit of technology we said we'd avoid....................

I can't edit for toffee but do know a thing or two about staying cool. Get a hose wand with a mist setting and set it up somewhere that you can waft yourself through it.

Mine is tied to the washing line post and I just wander past and squeeze the trigger to cool off. Feels amazing when you're roasting.

If the final intention is to load the vid to Youtube, then Youtube have a free editor built in, not the slickest but it works.

 

Older windows versions had 'movie maker' built in, I think you can still download that for free. I've got it on a PC running Windows XP still, but I think there are lots of basic ones, easy to find by googling for 'free video editing software' or similar

If you get in to editing, older versions of Cyberlink Power Director (the current version is pay monthly instead) can be picked up for under £50 and is very powerful and easy to use.

Video Editor built into Windows 10 is very basic but sounds like it would do the trick 

 

or Clipchamp is downloadable from the Microsoft store on windows 10 and 11. very basic again but a few more features than the windows 10 video editor like transitions, multiple music tracks with fades etc. 

 

I'd recommend Clipchamp

Can I ask a supplementary question, please?

 

From the list in post #2 I selected VidCutter and tried it to find it's a good item for selecting the good bits and sticking them together again into a single file.

 

BUT my camera records long recording session in half-hour long files. So a two hour run produces four files.

 

My problem is that I cannot see how to join together bits from different files to make a single edited record of a long run in one file.

 

Anyone able to help, either with info. on VidCutter or by recommending another simple editor to do this?
