Interested in finding a KTM front master cylinder with a bore of 12mm, anybody know which bikes they will have fit, probably a few me thinks, well that's my goal if a bleed and new HH pads dont do the job, braking is pants as is, backs fine though.

so you are reducing master cylinder diameter to increase the hydraulic advantage ?

The m/c on my XT600E is 1/2" if that's any help to get a better match.

Stupid question but I'd like to know (cos I've got a 900A); would any braking advantage or betterment by altering my master cylinder be overruled by the ABS?

Yes Lee, that's the idea, some people are fitting i think F650/GS650/Aprilia caliper as a straight swap as they have slightly larger pistons, someone else has fitted a radial MC with more lever travel, seeing how changing the MC on Tdm's worked so well i dont see why the same cant apply, have to be careful it's not so extreme to overwork the forks/disc i presume... not rushing got other stuff to sort 1st.

Cheers Dave that's one option and close enough, which year late 80's, wonder if the XT/Z660's are similar ? I like yamahaha.

I have ABS also on my bike and i dont think it's detrimental, been done on Enfields at least, the MC swaps were normally made on MK1&2 though, my 2002 9r stopped on a sixpence. Also it may depend on how complicated the ABS is on the 9r, pretty simple on the Enfield, a one way valve i'm led to believe. One of the chaps will have a better idea.

Mine is 1999/2000.

I've no experience of abs but I was under the impression as long as both wheels were doing the same speed the abs should keep out of the game, changing the m/c is no different from changing the size of the hand on the lever, smaller bore m/c = more lever travel but easier pull, bigger m/c bore = less lever travel but a wooden feeling brake (like Mk1/2 TDM's).

I've got a KTM 620 which i believe is 16mm, smaller 300cc EXC's are 10.5mm or 9.5 mm (Brembo), the 450exc has 14mm

1290 Superduke has a 12mm MC (2014 & 2015)

Grimeca and Brembo make some 12mm (for a 125 Husky)  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403564834661?hash=item5df656af65:g:AmUAAOSwAyViPb7m&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8LG4v9T9eIHLjWOM3whYAyoIUqA6d97gzOVxgv1I1i%2F%2FzIFHhV%2FQlFyiK%2FHNj2U9QvOEpwMcx4FOSzIhnpj%2BCkpwf7CLCRTtDW2xpqqx3V6CA8%2FgZyG0aalXzz7D%2BqIzbdPGFDnG777jNRduM2udAsfkFmMlLT4WHIhAjeIa0ivQXKb%2BDyAMOhgSAVMrb6RHnmZK%2BCU0p4nTr85qMAuOMes1TWy0R%2BdGXZzJbcfktDP9VrmKFcb1EeRzo5dqVjHCCAZL%2FPNXLEKMpkpJTBbiFYUF19Bd3Cozm7gUFfMAQGdXlNMatAILY8E8m5HciJWPLg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR_CLm4flYQ

My 850 front brake improved no end when I replaced all seals, and fitted braided hoses.

Lovely Chris, cheers, good options, i would stick with the 12mm as thats the size which has proven to work well, i'm also hoping for an improvement after a fluid change and new pads, otherwise i'll start experimenting once warranty period is over. Not sure new seals will help as they are only 2800 miles old, the front brake seems to be more off road oreintated on these though.

No, not a KTM, it's an Enfield Himalayan and another owner has modded the front brake MC with a 12mm KTM MC as the brake is a bit/lot crap for road use, single caliper only.Â
