Start Y'bastard! - ChrisG - 14-05-2017 Any suggestions as to what's going on with the wife's Diversion 600.  I know there's an issue with the fuel tap, it's one of those main/prime/reserve ones, and I think it's not getting a decent vacuum as it'll cut out on main at low revs, but runs fine on prime.  I'm assuming there's a leak in the vacuum line as I've replaced all the seals in the fuel tap already, so I'll replace the vacuum line at some point.  However I think it's starting problem is a separate issue.  If it's been run regularly it starts up fine, but leave it a few weeks and it doesn't seem to get fuel.  Turns over ok, seems to have a spark, but no smell of fuel and doesn't start.  Crank it a few times, leave it for a while, crank it a few times again, leave for a bit....and it will eventually start.  All with the fuel tap in Prime.  Couldn't get the damn thing to start at all today though despite trying several times over a 5 minute period.  Could there be a small leak and the lines/carbs are dry after leaving it for a few weeks?  Would it draw fuel through better if I had Main/Reserve working rather than starting on prime? Start Y'bastard! - Gdog - 14-05-2017 I think if in prime setting you could be dumping a load of crap into the float bowls from the bottom of the tank, have you checked the state of the carb jets ? All all tbe vaccum hoses intact with no splits ? Start Y'bastard! - ChrisG - 14-05-2017 Carbs are a pain in the arse to get at as the fuel tap gubbins means it's a bitch getting the tank off.  Fair point on crud from the prime position, I guess carbs off and clean them up then see what happens.  If it's a vacuum fuel pump then I guess that could be effected by the same issue as the tap. Start Y'bastard! - Matt686 - 14-05-2017 Running it on prime is frowned upon lol. Usually ends up flooding it. Sounds like the diaphragm in the tap has gone matey. Easy fix. Lot of the lads on the Diversion site went with the fuel pump conversion if I remember rightly. Does this help? https://www.bike-parts-yam.com/yamaha-pieces-catalogue-9411-27.html Start Y'bastard! - drewpy - 14-05-2017 I used a DT400 manual tap for my FZ600 sports. All the CRMC boys used them. Just go to remember to turn it off when its beddy byes Start Y'bastard! - ChrisG - 15-05-2017 The tap itself should be ok, I replaced all the seals in it, and it's definitely not flooding. I'm not sure if prime has another inlet from the tank or uses main or reserve, if reserve then it could be sucking a bit of crap. Matt mentioning fuel pump conversions has reminded me I think I've got an R1 or R6 electric pump sat in the garage somewhere that I was going to fit to the Mk1, that might be an option if the stock pump is on the way out. |
