Looks like I'm in line for redundancy or, at best, partial redundancy in the next couple of months.
My wife says to see it as an opportunity, so anyone got any ideas what I can do next?
Obviously a massive lottery win would resolve the situation nicely

I got made redundant and hated the process.

Managed to find a job in my same profession as it is hard to break into new work due to age and lots of competition out there.

Need to look at you USP and that's usually experience from our perspective.

If he did that & didn't claim dole how would that affect his state pension.

One can get a State Pension Statement on request from HM Govt. It will tell you how much you will get, if anything, (based on payments made up to the last tax year).

Good luck. Having been in an industry where redundancy was very likely, I have been on all sides of it including voluntary and being made redundant, given 3 months "garden leave" and then reemployed after my holiday by the same company Lolzio!!. The only bit I really disliked was not being made redundant when others were.
Recently made a big move, which seemed like the risky option.... A month later my old job/replacement was made redundant!! So ya never know.
Tell us what ya loike Jim and some more info and we will get on the case fur ewe.

I've been facing redundancy for 6 months or so, but just recently told it probably won't affect me. There's no guarantees though are there ? Don't know how long it will be like this. I've pushed for some extra training on different equipment to broaden my expertise (3D printing training course coming up soon)Â .... what is your trade Jim ?

Is your company not offering re-training as part of the redundancy package? At least that might give you a chance to change. I know how fraught it can be, I have two weeks left before I'm made compulsory.

Thanks for the thought guys, haven't had time to read or respond properly yet - really busy at, you guessed it, work! I should have an idea of what is likely to happen at the end of next week. I'll take it from there

If the company offer any training as part of the redundancy deal take all you can, getting help on things like interview techniques and CV writing can be really useful when job hunting.

Sign on at the job centre as soon as you're finished with work, this will mean your National Insurance stamp will get paid so your state pension won't be effected. Â As you've been working for the last year or so you are entitled to Jobseekers allowance, it's not means tested.

Have a good think about what you actually want to do. Â I used the opportunity of having a few months salary in the bank to set up my own company and try doing some consultancy work. Â The redundancy money meant I wasn't too scared about taking a few months to get some work in, and after a few of shortish (3-4 months) term contracts a company I was doing some work with offered me a full time job, just as a my main customer started reducing their reliance on contractors so I sent back to full time work with a company I'm much happier with than my previous employers.
