Harley.davidson Spark Plug Question - dapleb - 16-05-2023

New MOT guy had a 2 year old Harley Davidson in for a service..... Model...erm big and black.



It had NGK plugs type "MR8L 9". He cannot find these plugs. They don't show up on the NGK website and web search not really helping either. Any ideas please carpedians?

I've got catalog here but it's a few years old now, nothing in there.

I'd guess this plug is made for HD by NGK and not available by them yet. Bet he can get them via HD at a cost.



Bike details could reveal more.

Just had a look in the newest online catalog, no MR8L9 in there at all.



Indian has a listing for a MR7F, the only MR I can see.

NKG have a code decoder, but that format doesn't quite fit https://www.ngk.com/ngk-spark-plug-numbering-systems

 

I think it means

 

M - Compact

R - Resistor type

8 - Heat range hot to cold, so fairly cold

L - 11.2mm thread length

9  -0.036" gap

 

Some sites seem to list a LMAR8L-9, but that format doesn't quite fit either.

And why would you need to specially comission a non standard size!!! Poor bloke had a variety of very similar but not identical plugs.... don't think I'd be too keen on fitting a near enough plug on a 2 year old boike.... voiding any warranty etc.



I guess he will have to go direct to Harley dealership to try and get um.
