Fiat Fuel Filter Housing - Muppdog - 03-09-2017

Need some advice on an irritating issue. My wife's 09 Fiat Scudo needs a new fuel filter as part of a service. The garage tried to undo the top of the plastic housing but it would not budge without permanently damaging the darn thing. All clips online tell you to just unscrew it. I tried and 'no way, Jose'. Tried heat, WD40 and silicon spray. A new housing is £147. Any tips?

No tips Rob. I have a ducato based camper van with the same set up. They are notorious for breaking instead of disassembling. Apparently even the dealers have to break and replace. Fortunately mine isn't due until 28000 miles which will be about another four years. If it's running ok I won't be disturbing it then......

Are there any symptoms of it causing problems? Maybe worth leaving in place and looking at how much a used housing would be in case you break it when it does start giving trouble. It's not a left handed thread or something daft like that is it?

Nothing daft at all. Just two plastic parts not letting go. The new one is £147 from Fiat and not better in the Bay. Its been in there for 150k miles now and wifey drives long distances to competitions. If she broke down it would be nice to be able to say at least:' I did all I could'

Thanks all

Obvious question, why not fit a generic fuel filter in its place

Fiat Fuel Filter Housing - muir1848 - 05-09-2017

is this the same? lot less than 147

put an in line filter before it and just replace that as needed

Apparently, the filter housing is unique to that engine. Connections for the pipes and sensors are different to the one on the Bay. OEM numbers don't match.

Not considered in line. Might work as the existing still flows and won't get worse.

Hmmmm.

Cheers
