Latest News.................... - RSRocket - 18-07-2011 Original blog: RSRocket's Blog Well I think we had a little 'misunderstanding' no, not the argumentative sort, just a texting type of thing.[b]I thought Rob wanted to end his blog there until he got back but then I realised (yesterday) that actually, he didn't. Here is his mutterings up to date then...............................Angie[b]11th JulySeillans is a nice old village (where Phillipe, his friend lives). Had a typical French morning....... Coffee in the square reading the local paper (Rob speaks french don't forget so he will have been doing a bit more than looking at the pictures like I would have! Angie)[b]Walked round for a bit and got some mozzie cream for my bites B******ds! Hope you package arrives in time (so do I or you are in trouble! Angie) They said it would take 3 days. Helped Phillipe dig a shallow trench in afternoon when it wasn't so hot.30 degrees plus, took dogs out and had tea..........zonked!12th JulySpoke to Pascal (his other friend who I have met-Angie). Thursday is a french national holiday. I think I might leave on Friday but wont be on ferry home until at least Sunday. Have told work another week-cant swear to it but might be home Monday, had enough now-especially of the bloody mozzies!13th July[b]Up since 6am and digging away (at what-trench again? Angie) in the cool. Cloudy and rainy today. Looks like I am Partying with Pascal tomorrow night. Will look at ferries later, thinking more middle of next week to cross now and home Thursday/Friday now.Have booked ferry now, 10am Calais to Dover on Tuesday 19th, maybe home Tuesday late evening or Wednesday if I stop over somewhere? Phew, glad its sorted. Party with Pascal tomoz, probably not fit to ride Friday anyways...........14th July[b]Just back from a trip to beach with Pascal, his sister Muriel and her kids. Nice airport is just to the left-I await your arrival by plane........I wish![b]Maybe stay in Cagnes tonight and possibly have a run up the coast to see Ann Christine (the boat he used to live on-was moored in the old harbour at Villefranche when we went 2 years ago-Angie) then its Northwards towards home.15th July[b]He rang me in the morning to wish me Happy Birthday from the terrace at 'Le Havre Bleau' the hotel we stayed in at Beaulieu Sur Mer-Link below[b] http://www.lehavrebleu.com/index-uk.htm[b]He wanted to be somewhere where I had been so I could picture him there I think-wish I had asked him to bring some lemons off the tree in the car park for my G&T-Drat!I am full of mountains and corners so Autoroute beckons towards Digne but A roads afterwards (Must watch out for cameras), then on to Reims.Just pulled off A7 before Avignon, found a couple of trees for my hammock. Seems too windy for the mozzies-hopefully! Did autoroute from NIce to Aix, just to get out of the tourist trap. Big miles tomorrow probably..........16th July[b]Been up since 3am-woken by dogs barking, frogs croaking and cicadas doing whatever they do! Been riding on and off since. Its quite cold too-from boiling to freezing in 200 miles! Will warm up late I expect.[b]Think Nice itself is just like life......lovely sweet smells of herbs and flowers then Pwhoaarrr! Suddenly the stench of the drains hit you (I remember that from when we were there-Angie)[b]Its just to keep you grounded and remind you that you aren't in paradise! At services near Lyon making my own brew, honey, toast and boiled rice (Eh??? That's a concoction? Angie)[b]I have to watch the brass, am from Yorkshire tha knows...........[b]Got flashed with speed camera earlier (oops-Angie)Its 12.15 and I am eating a BIG meal-25 Euros, normal in France as you know. A few drinks and Pow!-Sleep...ZzzzzzzCamped in corn field this evening. Feel like I want to sleep for 12 hours-totally f***ked![b]Near village of Nuit St George-very apt methinks-cool, cloudy and no mozzies........yet![b]17th July[b]Well its raining hard and has been most of night (here as well-Angie). Will stay put for now and see if it fairs up later.[b]Had a walk in local woods and found a fishing pond and hut with all the gear in. Right character of a fella turned up later. Sat and had a drink with him, he was on the whisky and I had Pastis. (This text was really late at night or very early in morning Angie)Got on the bike this morning and had forgot how to ride (could it have been something to do with the Pastis in the night? Angie) 400 miles in a straight line and too much Pastis don't help (well, there's my answer! Angie)Ready for off at 12 noon as stayed in tent most of the morning. Took the D971 out of dijon to Troyes, you could have some fun there if you know how to ride! Back to straight lines on old N77 beyond Troyes. Camped on proper site just before Reims as a storm threatened-been same all afternoon. Been riding at a tilt to compensate for the strong winds sweeping across the big open bread/wine basket that is champagne country. Mebbe visit some war stuff in Normandy before the ferry?18th July[b]Its a leaden sky here, just sets the mood right when I am riding through the fields of 'Historical Death'. Luckily dry so far despite the clouds-so far..........[b]Intend to camp between Calais and Dunquerque.[b]So am absolutely knackered. In a small village 20km from Calais and waiting for the takeaway to open. Only thing around-honest, I am not being tight. Spent a couple of hours in Dunquerque proper. Been on the evacuation beach (my grandad got blown up there. Angie) and to the museum.[b]And the war goes on ....my own war that is against my own 'Bette Noir'..the damn wind. The only reason I have to thank it is to give me direction! As there is no sun and my compass is (dont know what he means here-the actual text reads 'notsure and soas' Angie)[b]The wind has been a constant Westerly force 6 for 2 days (He aint keen in the wind-Angie) so I have relied on it in larger towns and villages where the signage seems to have deteriorated (Rob always says he 'follows his nose' and has a really amazing sense of direction usually-unlike me-typical blonde bird with NO sense of direction whatsoever! Angie)[b]Maybe its time I left the Iron Age and got into techno? (Mebbe not cos the complexity of satnav would probably do his head in! Angie)I stopped to visit Laon as its skyline with a mediaval cathedral was just too enticing! A more intricate stonework I have not seen (and dont forget I live not far from York!). [b]Wow, I must be tired. Actually went in search of a B& B which was luckily full. 40 Euro!!!!!!!!!!! Few beers to wash down a kebab (only choice in the one horse town of Bourbourg) so its a wild camp for my last night on French soil-Yeehaaa![b]Dont get my wrong, its just I was really ready for home last week but friends in the South of France were calling.[b]Cant wait to be back on English soil -all this foreign talk is hard work! (don't worry-the rain when you get home will send you back to the South of France 'Tout Suit' Angie)Just got camped 5 miles from ferry in quiet lorry park area. Rain started! (aah-he is near home-can tell with the rain-Angie)[b]Will be plenty of time in morning to see how many bottles I can stash!
