Bits Bacon...........briefly ! - Studley Ramrod - 28-02-2011

Original blog: Studley's Bloggerydoodaah

Well, me bike's briefly back together Smile[b][Image: 5483227780_3fa03f2110_b.jpg]Typically, I have a small oil leak Rolleyes I say typically because it's leaking from one of the 2 gaskets joining the oil tank and these were the only 2 gaskets I didn't replace. Not a problem as I'll shortly be working in that area on me boike anyways. Here's an approx. list of what it cost to do the work.Engine gaskets and parts.Wemoto stuff[b]Valve Stem Seals x 10 =[b]Alternator Gasket =[b]Clutch Cover Gasket = [b] SubTOTAL = £26.88AJ Sutton (Yammy) stuff [b]Water Pump O Ring =[b]Torx Screws x 2 =[b]Oil Pump Cover Gasket = [b]Head Gasket = £55.85[b]Oil Strainer Gasket = £05.21[b]Oil Tank Gasket = £09.02[b]Clutch Friction Plate = £11.45[b] Sub TOTAL = £94.30Used Gearbox = £30.00[b]Cylinder Hone = £20.00[b]Yuasa Battery = £42.95[b]Crankcase Sealant = £05.00[b]Engine Oil & Filter = £18.04[b]Coolant 2ltr = £08.99[b]Cleaning Stuff = £20.00[b] Sub TOTAL = £144.98[b] [b] TOTAL = £266.16I've also purchased a few extra tools fer the job but I don't consider them to be part of the costing as I can obviously use 'em again. It has to be said, without a doubt, I wouldn't have taken on such a job if it weren't for Carpe-TDM. Rockout I've learnt so much over the past few years from knowledgeable members comments, blogs and postings. Clappingyellow Clappingyellow [b]I've also saved a good bit of money, thanks to Favs getting me the gearbox for an amazing £30 and to Lee Henty for supplying me with numerous nuts, washers, machined bits and the oil pressure switch. Rockon [b]A big thanks also to Dapleb, keeper of The Pa Larkin Quality Hand-Crafted Shim Retaining System, Yeahthat and for offering the invaluable shim swap service, wot woz errrr, invaluable Question I'll be continuing me bloggerydoodaah, at a much slower pace, Rolleyes but the main bit is just about completed as it's not gonna be winter fer much longer. Still, I hope it provided some peeps with a little assistance in fighting off the winter boredom. How would I do it differently next time ? [b]I wouldn't pick the coldest winter on record as my starting time. It's unbelievable how much the really cold weather slows everything down ! Not a problem if you have somewhere nice and warm tho ![b]I'd clean the engine as much as possible while it's still on the bike using a pressure washer. It's a pain cleaning everything by hand.[b]Also, if your doing the job alone as I did, I'd prolly take the top end off the engine afore removing it, it's a heavy lump.
