Top End Cleaned N Painted - Studley Ramrod - 25-01-2011 Original blog: Studley's Bloggerydoodaah I av spended most of the past week cleaning and painting the cylinder and head. Took me longer than I anticipated but the top end was a right ol mess. Sorry fer the crappy photo Oil had been running down the oil fill toob and all over the rocker cover and the top end. I reckon a pressure washer, which I dunt av, would have halved the time spent cleaning it. I resorted to using a solvent degreaser and a brass wire brush to get the really cruddy bits off. Took a few cleans still [b]Finished off with me dremel type tool to get into the crooks an fannys [b] [b]I then cleaned the valves using a steel wire wheel in my drill which got all the inlets cleaned and also cleaned most of the baked on crud on the outlets. I then lapped the outlets and inspected/measured the surfaces etc. All the valve seats are in really good condition too ! Decided the inlets don't need lapping as they look almost new After masking off the parts, I'm sure it's an art, I prepped the surface, using acetone and a few cloths, and started painting wiv Simoniz Engine Enamel Silver/Aluminium. 3 coats later and were getting there ![]() Will prolly give 'em another coat or 2 tomorra depending on how they look, me heed can't take any more solvent abuse today tho [b]Still need to finish cleaning the outlet valves too, after which it'll be onto rebuilderin' head/valves/cams/shimmerydoodaah's.Think I'm roughly on schedule fer completing it by Feb/March but still got a lot to do. Hopefully the weather will be getting milder which will aid my progress. Trust me to pick the worst winter on record fer fettlin' eh RE: Top End Cleaned N Painted - Guinness - 28-01-2011 Lick lick RE: Top End Cleaned N Painted - leehenty - 30-01-2011 Studley you are going to use the genuine gaskets are you ? hammerman fell into this trap using pattern ones and had to pull it all to bits again.
