Works a treat! Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - tdm850rider - 04-02-2007 Wouldn't this go under 'Electrical' in KB? It is about coils and leads? Am I missing something? Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - geordieguy - 12-11-2007 Any picture Wicky ? Mines been bucking like a rodeo mustang..... in the wet. Thought I sorted it with damp seal ..but its back. What do the coils look like after you've done them ? Cheers, Ivan Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - dapleb - 12-11-2007 Yeah damp seal works for a while. My very first ever post on Carpe was about this. I bodged it with damp seal for a while. Then after noticing it arcing from lead to frame, eventually replaced the leads and waterproofed the bassads. Just make sure you overlap slightly at both ends (the plug caps at one end and coils at t'other). Jobs a carrot. You on a 9'er Geordie? Seems to be the mkII's more than the mkI's or 9'ers that are affected! Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - geordieguy - 12-11-2007 Yep.. Dapleb My 900 has had its moments in the wet of dying when you pull away from the lights.. very scarey !!! Then Hessitating when reving , only to find a sudden surge of power...... Yeehaa !!!! I'll get some self -amalgamating tape and do the business. Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - geordieguy - 12-12-2007 I went to buy some of that tape, when I looked at it I was a bit worried about the heat, was it up to the job. Afterall the lead to the coil on mine rests on the block....... ![]() DHOOH !!! Thats what is causing it. Its shorting in the rain to the engine block. Hence the misfires !! Feeling the back of the lead sure enough the lead has an indent where it's been touching. so my solution is to lift it off the block with a cable tie...... ![]() Simple... I wonder if all 900 leads touch the top of the engine block ? Cheers, Ivan Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - dwayne dibley - 13-12-2007 Blimey! Just checked mine, exactly the same! Add another quirk to the 900. Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - tdm850rider - 13-12-2007 QUOTE(dwayne dibley @ Thu 13th Dec 2007, 04:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Blimey! Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - geordieguy - 15-01-2008 Went out for a ride last sunday and the problem is back !!!! could not believe it.. thought it was sorted. Took the side panels off and took the leads and coils off, ready to do the self amalgamating tape business, when I noticed this ![]() So it was arcing in two places... did the business ![]() And what a difference... So everyone was right, the tape insulates the leads. Brilliant !!!!!! Cheers, Ivan Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - Guest - 16-01-2008 If they used some quality leads in the first place we wouldn't have to worry about this sort of thing for at least 10 years. Unless they're wearing on the engine. Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - dwayne dibley - 28-01-2008 OMG! What a transformation! When my bike ticks over, every now and a gain the revs drop then pick up again, and if i 'blip' the throttle the revs were slow to catch up. Removed the side panels as I could hear a ticking sound, and lo an behold. A spark from the HT lead to the frame. Done the tape fix, and what a transformation, its like having my old bike back. No rough running, no rev drops, sweet. So good had to ride it to Llangollen just for fun, the grin factor is back Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - pistolwhip - 17-03-2008 hello boys and girls. I been lurking in here awhile now. got my tdm850 a few weeks ago. and it ran good. up until i had it serviced. then the genius mech sprayed water all over and its been runnig like a dog ever since. i did up the amalgamating bit.... but it still drags... how now? cheers all and thanx in advance. Wet Weather Rough Running: Coils and Leads - geordieguy - 17-03-2008 Welcome to the party Pistolwip... Sounds like there is water in the electrics. Get a big can of WD40 and spray everthing you can, get the seat of as in some of the above links, and spray inside the relay boxes. OR leave the bike out in wind. If its just water it will eventually try off. dont forget to update us Good Luck. Cheers, Ivan |
