First run through the saltflats - themannie - 13-04-2006 There's a man phoned me the other night saying "It's a lovely sunset, are you watching the same one as me?" and I discovered Alan Eccles had turned with his bike on a trailer, soft git! Mind you it does snow hard up here! Alan carried out modifications to my forks last year and was keen to kind out how I was doing with them. despite having a B&B he insisted on kipping out in his Bongo van (tight git). We headed off for a run west and he soon pulled me over for a tweak at my rear shock, "A bit less rebound" he said "and a tad less compression." I was tentative at first but I realised that the faster I went, the better it felt, not that we were breaking the law you understand! He was affy keen to get a shot on my bike to try my suspension but I know fine he just wanted to see if I'd more power and - tee hee hee - we do have more top end We'd a good run up to Newtonmore getting rid of the winter rust (not of the bike!) - always a good idea for your first run of the year. Both are fitted with Metz M6 and were impressed with them in the salty conditions on some of the higher roads. Having told Alan over a coffee at Newtonmore I am economical with my use of the offside of the road through corners, the first time I decided to use a lot of offside for a left hander i.e. about a foot away from the grass he decided to come through a good 10 mph faster between me and the verge. Alan's got heated handlebars and he obviously wanted me to feel how warm they were! Thats the last time I'll give away my secrets! A good day was had by all and only a TDM could revel in such conditions. I believe you have a good do in September, I hope you can wait for an auld mannie to keep up wi you.... First run through the saltflats - tdm850rider - 13-04-2006 Nice start (your first post). No offence but - from memory Mr Mannie, I think you might be a couple of kilos on the wrong side of our "Dandy" And I think you're lucky it wasn't just your rear shock he was checking! BUT the big one for me is ........................... How can I thank you and ever repay you - this "Mr Mannie" trained Dippy!
