Finally... I got one too... - robizhood - 02-08-2006

Hi everyone, I fell in love to the TDM on the 2000 at that time I had a "bulky" Honda Shadow 750, finally last saturday I bought my birthday present ( I belive the best I have ever done ), a Grey second hand 850, I cannot stop to watch her... it is real...!
There are some minor work to do and I will love on doing it, any advice on how to remove rust on front disks and screws? I think the previous owner had left her under the rain without care, so sad...
I hope to enjoy this bike despite....... I live and work in London and the traffic sometimes is unbelievable.
Thanks for any help yahoo.gif .

Patrik

if it's really the disks, than it's easy. just cleaned the rust of of the div600 that has been standing in the garage here ever since my gf bought her z750.
It goes a little bit like this:
get in sadle, start engine, pull up nice and hard, break really hard. Repeat 3 or 4 times and the front disks will look shiny new... [Image: banana.gif]

Cheers "duibhce", I managed to clean the disk in that way but what really annoyng me is the rust trough the disk-holes, someone adviced me to use the wd-40, it didn't remove the rust.
Thanks.

If you plan on getting WD40 anywhere near the brakes make sure you give them a good dose of brake degreaser to clean them afterwards

I would (and I do) just ignore the rust that's in the holes and not on the surface of the disks - it will only return, and with chemicals (especially oily ones like WD40) there's too much danger of damaging the braking efficiency. [Image: sad.gif] Better to be safe than shiny.

Welcome, anyway. [Image: smile.gif]

you could paint inside the holes with an engine laquer (others will burn away quickly), just use a small paint brush and wipe any excessive paint off the disc face, small amounts will be removed by the pads in normal action, but trying to remove large areas of paint with the pads will probably contaminate the pads and lessen their frictional qualities.
