unlucky or what! - wrex - 19-08-2006

went to garage yesterday to get new rocker covers under warranty and was talking to dave the salesman and he takes me around to the yard and shows me a written off 1200gs adventure two days old!

the short time owner had done just 212milles and put it in a ditch bending the frame [Image: rotflmmfao.gif]

well by all accounts sometimes the painty stuff covering them doesnt quite overlap the edges properly and the rain gets under it and the painty stuff cracks like an old rembrant

tis strange when looking at that link mosy gs owners in the uk have atleast crash bars on & NEVER venture OFF road that guy goes into the out back to do serious off roading & not a crash bar to be seen-unlucky for him they just might have saved that rocker box.

Typical BMW riders mate. I should know, I know most of em or know of them. Love the sidecars, mine never looked quite that feral.

Great stuff - Wickla would be in his element. I'm sure that old hill farmer I knew with his corrugated iron fairing is in there somewhere, and I love the rocket launchers in #33. Must cultivate the beard a bit more for the ZZTopp look.

that sidecar that looked like a knackered coffin was soo odd.you rarely see things like that over here maybe the odd rat bike.even when trail riding most bikes that are uses are in the 350 type category.most off the trails here are a lot smaller in size ie:narrow,and you just wouldnt want to take or couldnt take a 300+kg monster down them.i does look like a complete adventure but i always try even tho its on the road to make every ride out one.

Never seen a low level pipe like that on a GS either.

The pipe can be adjusted down somehow. Touring riders often have the low pipe so you use full-size panniers on both sides instead of the narrow left pannier on the R1150R and GS. The missus has a low Staintune on her 1150R for just that reason. High pipe is for styling only, no practical purpose. The OEM high pipe has never been used, still sitting in a box in the garage.

I dont think he'd be too worried about cornering clearance, lost of straight roads out there and not much extreme leaning on the dirt.
