TDM900 at NEC 2006 - SteveOne - 02-11-2006

Went to the bike show at the NEC (birmingham) yesterday.

The new Triumph Tiger does look good - they had three on display, including a white one.
They only had one to sit on, and it was very very busy.

On the Yamaha stand I found a black TDM/A.
I think I was the only one paying it any attention.
Sad, very sad. Why are people only interested in the brand new models ?

I bought myself a pair of waterproof Oxtar boots. I didn't manage to find a new helmet though.

I've been using Oxtar "Explorers" (leather/Cordura/Goretex) which have been great - only thing is the toe looks a bit pointy: typically Italian?

I love my '98 TDM, but when I go to a bike show, I go to see the new models, I've seen a TDM900 about 900 times, so I'd prefer to look at anything new, even sports bikes, because they're NEW. That's why I'm such a fan of custom bikes, like LIAWs, you won't see anything else like it.

Loved the FJR 13, though it's way out of my $$$$$$$$ pile. [Image: unsure.gif]

I have tried Tigers of all generations, but the triple is not for me. People who like fours (like the average bike-mag journo [Image: rolleyes.gif] ) may say a triple oozes character, but if you come from big singles and twins the triple is rather clinical, unengaging and "buzzy". Surely, the Triumph triple is a great engine, incredibly well developed in a very short period of time, and superb for powering fast modern (sport-)tourers, but somehow it doesn't seem to work in an "all-road" bike (or whatever the term is for these days for this sort of bike): It kind of lacks "chunkiness". I mean, would you like a Fazer engine in your TDM? [Image: dry.gif]

they had 4 when i was there, gold/yellow on one side of stand, white on other, black in the middle to sit on and blue up above the sales stand.

i was most impressed by it, my mate got a test ride booked(and he's already put a deposit down on one), i'm gonna try and book a 900 test ride the same day so we can take both out and test ride them.

Press Day there were only two TDM's that i saw 1xblack mica 1xblue/grey but I was told there would be the new White and Red there later. I do like the black frame and engine. Not sure about the red line around wheel rims though. New sidepanel decals are nice.
No don't like new Tiger's seat, don't think it would be as good as the earlier models for touring so whats it going to be aimed at then ?? [Image: blink.gif]

Im completely at odds with you on the trumpet engine.I think its fabulous there said it.It has the power most tdm owners are trying to get with zorsts power commanders k&n the list goes on and the way it pulls + that exhaust note with the factory can fitted is just tops.IMHO triumph have made a bike so similar to the tdm its uncanny.just look at it especially the black one.

TDM900 at NEC 2006 - LIAW - 28-11-2006

yeah but a TDM's passenger will be able to stay sat in the seat as it's a level one.
