2007 TDM 900 - jellyroll - 16-11-2006

The 2007 TDM 900 has been released in Oz. It's $AUS2000 less than the previous model.

I wonder if the penny has dropped at Yamaha. Too many competitors' bigger capacity bikes for a lot less.

Hope it sells a lot more here.

Better colours too. Red and white. Much better than the Darth Vader schemes of the last few years.

I am tempted to get one. My 1999 850 is OK but it's getting a bit cantakerous.

What do TDMers think the 2007 price drop will do to the 2006 model's cost ?

Jelly Roll

2007 TDM 900 - baron - 16-11-2006

Hmmm...price drop good, and necessary I'd say. But is it brought on by stiffer competition or to move more units ahead of the release of a redesigned version....TDM1100....R......RR......GRRR....turbo......nitro? [Image: blink.gif]

white is based on a colours of a R6 white with red details and red lines on a wheels. I dont like it. Red is nice, but I prefered some light colours..

Does anyone know the strength of the rumour that a bigger bore TDM is to be released?

"Bigger bore" in the sense of cylinder capacity before some shining wit jumps in.

One reason for dropping the price would be the introduction of the BMW F800S at around 15,000 plus on roads with centrestand standard. Given the choice of a similar specced Yamaha and TDM for much the same money, many would buy the BM if only for the reputation. Making the TDM $2000 cheaper gives them some breathing space.

I was in a Yam shop yesterday and it is the first time I noticed, along with these, that ALL the engines are now black. Something to do with the paint falling off early models?

Just wait till the black paint falls off, it'll look really crap then.

2007 TDM 900 - robelst - 25-11-2006

So the "newness" of the 2007 model is different paint and lower price tag? TDMs can be found rather cheaply in the UK anyway, sometimes for as little as 5k for a new "previous-season" model. Incredible how little appreciation exists for this bike in the UK [Image: blink.gif]

I've tried the F800S as well, a nifty little bike but relatively cramped for my 6"5 frame and lacks the V-like sound as well. Belt is rather nice though, they are great (my Buell's got one).
I think that only when BMW introduces a F800GS more direct competition will be around for the TDM.

2007 TDM 900 - bof69 - 25-11-2006

[Image: banana.gif] Well thats it then, seeing as mine is going to look like a bloody rainbow warrior with all the different coloured panels I'm just going to Matt Black the lot and put 07 decals on it (I like them).
All I need now is the Front fairing Inner panel (nearly £100 off Yamaripoff) [Image: laugh.gif]

In one respect the black paint will be easier to match, had that problem on a TT350 enduro with the paint coming off, just went to bike shop got some Matt black casing paint and sprayed it on looked like new,One prob is though that black does show the muck etc off the roads so prob end up washing it more lol

It's a shame that the changes are so minor. I would like to have seen better suspension (Ohlins rear, and USD up front). It could also do with more power and less weight.

I don't like the chrome handle-bars, so I hope they've done something about them. Please up the quality a bit, especially: plastics and the bits that were painted goldy-brown on the 2003 version.

And Yamaha should sell it with a centre-stand! Asking €200 (or more in the UK) is out of order - it's supposed to be practical bike! (well it is, but a bike like this should come with a centre-stand).

personally I'm quite pleased with the suspension. The rear needed some preload and damping adjustment but is near perfect now for my rather aggressive riding in the Ardennes and the Alps. The standard front is too soft, but with thicker oil it is now a lot more precise and less bouncy.

With the rest of your points I whole-heartedly agree [Image: good.gif]

Before, I would have agreed with you about the suspension, but now that I've ridden a KTM 950 ADV a fair bit, I don't agree. The KTM has top quality White Power suspension. The damping is adjustable, but does not seem to need fiddling! The rear preload can be adjusted on the move (very handy if carrying a pillion for just a few Km, or some extra luggage, or if the road gets really rough). I can ride over cat's eyes while cornering at full bore, and not notice them - unlike the TDM, which objects to that sort of thing.
