The others will of course glow by tradition. TDM Group test in the MCN - robelst - 29-11-2006 Pfft, it's only MCN: what do they know? The TDM never fitted any pre-fabricated bike-category, so it will always come out as a half-baked compromise when bike-mags apply their endless wisdom making up their conclusions. But who cares anyway? A bad press doesn't make a great bike bad. Also, if this means getting big fat discounts on this seriously underrated bike you won't hear me complain. Meanwhile, as long as the bike sells well in Europe, Yamaha will probably keep building and developing it, so the more the UK journos slag the bike, the better for us UK riders. I wouldn't use it to clear up doggy doo. Once upon a time it was a respected paper, then they hired a guy from the Sun to pimp it up. He is not a biker. Like the Sun, MCN treats its own readership like a bunch of credulous idiots. Their staffers are spotty wannabees who know a fraction of what you already do about about bikes but they pretend otherwise. Don't buy it, it only encourages them. But in saying that I am biased towards TDM's. the triumph does look promising until you get to the seat then it all goes pete tong for my liking. TAM TDM Group test in the MCN - Matlock - 29-11-2006 Sat down and read the report in the "comic" after my tea (no cakes sadly ). As TDMTAM says; usual MCN Triumph/Ducati bias. They seem to be complaining that the 900 twin doesn't go as well as the 1050, 1100 and 1200 cc bikes. Surprised? They also trot out the old "jack of all trades, master of none" cliché. Personally I don't want a bike that excels at one activity, but is compromised in all the other uses I can put a bike to. A final stoopid critisism is that the TDM is nearly as heavy as the BMW. They rather neglect to mention though that it's the lightest of the 4 bikes being tested. You'd think that if they wanted to critisise a bike for being nearly as heavy as the BMW, then they'd make it the next heaviest bike - the Triumph. I confess that i have just traded my 2002 900 in on a BMW R1200ST. More power, more comfortable seat, shaft drive, ABS, much smoother throttle but (a bit ) heavier, less range, worse gearbox, worse instruments, less feel with the brakes, not as good in town or on a broken surface. And BMW have just discovered parallel twins. Fashion and image seem to influence some reviews a lot!
