hi dear friends,

 

 

i am lookinf for a sprocket that fits on the TDM 900  - note i want to go from 

 

original 16/42 to 

new 18/37 or 36 teeth 

 

 

so the gearing should be taller - to commute and lower the rpm

 

 

 

now i look for rear sprocket

Apologies if I missed this but, what specifically is the reason behind changing the gearing, presumably you've identified an issue with the standard equipment you wish to change ?

The only change I have made, was to drop the front sprocket -1 tooth

This gave better acceleration, smoother low rpm pickup, and the impact on economy wasn't notably large.

 

From what I understand about Favs, he is tiny, light, he regularly runs marathons and eats carefully, and rides only at the speed limit.....are those also your parameters ?

The round bit with a pointy thing ?

No.

 

The PCD of the mounting bolts is different - very different - 110 vs 150. so it won't bolt to the wheel.

 

Why not simply ride one or two gears higher than normal? Start in 2nd (and burn the clutch) and change up early? If you are commuting do you ride at high speed?

 

You propose a change in gearing of at least  27.7% - that is extreme. So much so that I went back to the original posting to check it wasn't 1st April.

 

There would also possibly be chain clearance problems.

 

A Google search found 37 tooth rear sprockets for TDM900.

 

SpeedoHealer might correct speedo and odometer errors. Unless yours is an ABS model which needs no correction for gearing.

If you need to change more than 2 teeth at the front or 3 teeth at the back I would say the thing that is needing changed is the whole bike, yamaha spent lots of time designing the bike and gearing to suit and they likely know better than most of us apart from minor changes for personal usage.

Gear it too high and it just won't pull it in top gear so you'll end up in a lower gear anyway.
