Mk1 Chain - Pedro - 13-09-2023

Would a clip type joining link be good enough for the "overpowered" 3vd or best with a rivet type. Also I can get a deal on a 118 link DID so would it be easy enough to shorten to a 114 link to suit the 3vd?

FWIW

Split link (clip), is fine for all TDM models as is rivet type. Benefit of the split link - if you're ham-fisted it is easy to over do the rivet variety leaving you with a tight spot and earlier chain/sprocket wear. Easy enought to shorten rhe chain to the length you require. None of thje TDMs require HD or X-HD chains either..

Remember split link - closed end to direction of chain travel :good:

Assuming chain size is the same for all TDMs.

Never use anything other a split link on all my bikes.......Did have one come off on a KLR650 at 60 paced out the skid and reckon on 210ft skid, managed to steer it to the side of the road as the speed went down (you cannot beat the skills of roading will teach you). When I rebuilt the KLR I used a bolt that was a tad too lone for the rear subframe fixing and the end was just catching the split link every now and then and broke the u clip on the link.
