Dash To Scotland And Back. - Riggers - 24-08-2019

Along with Carper LAURENCEAUX I've just returned from a six day Scottish tour from Hull to John o'Groats and back. Around 1300 miles in all with an utter mixed bag of Scottish weather.

Here's the route...

Just to prove I'm kid you not...

Even further north...

TDM Twins...

Oban by night...

Music in Moffat...

Can't speak for Steve, but my bike averaged 66 mpg which can't be bad by any means.

Lake District next week so fingers crossed for the weather again.

Riggers.

Glad to see you did Dunnet Head. Now for the southern match, Lands End and the Lizard.

On second thought, forget Lands End!

No mate, its the bar in The Annandale Hotel a couple of doors away. They have a great DIY folk night every Thursday.

Yep, stayed there many times in the Buccleuch and I've no complaints with their welcome and commitment to bikes and bikers.

However this time we went for a change and stayed at the Morlich Guest House, about 10 minutes walk from the town centre. Nigel and his Mrs have just set the business up and they too are trying to attract the biker trade. And I have to say this was somewhere a bit special!

The welcome was warm and inviting, with help offered with luggage, garage for the bikes, tea, coffee and biscuits. The room was superb with views out over Moffatt and the locally sourced breakfast was way out in a class of its own with everything you could possibly think of including hot rolls fresh out of the oven.

Other guest houses are available, and I've no vested interest, but anyone including Moffatt in their travels could do a lot worse than giving this place a try.

Hi all,

First thing I must say (once again) is thanks to member Riggers for getting this trip (and our next to Keswick) organised.

Was it a bit of a trial? I'd say not because the spectacular far outweighed the mediocre and if a bit of rain is not your bag, try Spain as I have done (and sweat like a pig!).

Riggers mentioned Morlich Guest House in Moffet, our last stop and a relatively new start-up that I highly recommend. (pics attached)

We decided to not actively follow the Scottish 500 or whatever it's called (as we wanted more miles), but I belive our best day from John O'Groats to Inverness via Doon Reay and Tongue covered part of it. Over 1356 miles I averaged 65mpg and other than a numb bum at times, both bikes performed faultlessly. Good ol' TDM.
