Went for some grub with a few work colleagues last week in Southall. Could have left the bike at the office and got a lift, but thought no prob's, easy to park a bike usually. So, stuck it on the pavement right outside the restaurant, right against the wall not in anyones path, and I could keep an eye on it.
One very reasonable and extremely tasty curry later, was then ruined by a fookin parking notice stuck on the screen [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif[/img] £100 for parking with 'One or more wheels' on the pavement, but of course I get 50% off if I pay up within 28 days, bargain, huh...
Googled this one up, and it seems that this is the councils latest scam for fleecing the driving public with Westminster being the most active. Now I'm not saying that you should be able to go blocking pavements willy nilly, but ferchrissakes, there's no parking bays for bikes anymore, where the hell are you supposed to leave it?
You think they'd try and encourage two wheelers to help with congestion. oops, silly me, that wouldn't make them any money would it?!?!?!
Beware if you're in London, or do what my mate does with his scooter, tax disc in pocket, velcro'd No plate in topbox when parking! And I thought he was overeacting [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif[/img]

It seems to vary according to the council. In Wimbledon, I got told off for a double yellow last week and told to park on the pavement in future, by a very nice parking nazi. Who went on to say they didn't give a damn about bikes on the pavement just don't block the pedestrians.
They are almost certainly directly employed by the council round here and not on targets set by NCP and the like.

Thanks for the links folks.
I looked into various 'get-out' idea's but couldn't really see any that would work, it seems within London, pavement parking is being used to fleece people, I live out of town so have never had a problem before..
Paid the bugger yesterday, which is a pity as I like the idea on muddy's link about refusing their 'offer of a contract', might just work...

I got a ticket in Sutton for the same thing. I paid up too, probably for the same reason as you, I didn't want to risk having to pay double. And that's the thing isn't it, the inbuilt deterrent from taking further action. Makes me wonder why.
