That's a bit of a bummer

I suppose al the recession, together with the much simpler in-helmet bluetooth systems have killed them off.
I a;ways wondered why they didn't progress with the times.

Unfortunately, the simpler in-helmet bluetooth systems were much cheaper, but only because they were inferior quality. The Autocom system has always been far superior in terms of sound quality and longevity. RIP Autocom, we regret your passing.

the big advantage systems like Autocom (and Starcom) offer over the bluetooth ones are sound quality and the fact there's no batteries to recharge.

i found the caberg justissimo bluetooth kit to be very good for day use, battery lasted all day and sound quality was pretty good
but when you are touring(especially if camping) or wish to add a decent PTT/Bike2Bike/mp3 etc you need a wired system that runs from bike power

indeed, for single day trips the bluetooth stuff is adequate.
When we go on longer trips I already need to find a place to recharge:
- 2 PMR radio's
- GF's MP3 Player
- DSLR camera

and on trips longer than a week also for:
- GF's GSM
- My GSM

It is sometines already hard to find enough outlets in hotel rooms, let alone when we go camping.

R.i.p. Autocom - ChrisG - 10-01-2010

Car chargers and a power outlet on the bike are the way forward

Bummer. I think most of my cycle buds here agree they had a top quality product line - many say the best.

Might be a good time to pick up a few parts or a system if they discount them hard.

R.i.p. Autocom - ChrisG - 10-01-2010

I reckon part of the problem was probably lack of repeat customers... they never broke so need to buy another one.

I'm up for that. Please post if any info comes up about parts.

Looks like Tecstar (who own Starcom) have bought up the remains. It's a good thing that the autocom kit will still be available but I can't help wondering if lack of competition will push the prices higher, as I've always considers Autocom, Starcom and Intaride to be the big 3.

There's also Sonic (which are part of the outfit I work for) but I think they are top end of the market & supply police, MOD & James Bond

1. No

2. another B&K group company makes prison bars & cell doors, so I suppose that's the 'homeland security' bit ....

I just build blots on the landscape for a living.............Tesco's
