Your Dream Bike Collection - Antidote To Boredom - Quartermaster - 23-03-2020

Good morning Gents,
 
Bored yet? Well at some point soon you will be. Personally I'll be weeding the garden today, but with tweezers to extend the job for as long as possible, then it's indoors for another date with Homes Under The Hammer on the telly.
 
Alternatively you can take part in a bit of Carpe fun.
 
<b>Just supposing you were given the opportunity to acquire for free just 5 motorcycles but had to choose one from each of the following categories, what would be your choice?</b>
 
<b>1/ Every day general purpose "do everything".</b>
 
<b>2/ Fun bike</b>
 
<b>3/ Practical classic or vintage.</b>
 
<b>4/ A famous historic bike</b>
 
<b>5/ An "ornament" bike for the lounge or bedroom.</b>
 
<b>All you have to do is list your personal choice for each category along with an explanation (long or short) for your selection and then "Reply to All".</b>
 
Should be fun, I'll start with mine
 
1/  Obviously (for me) the Yamaha TDM900. I've owned two and that punchy parallel twin has lots of stomp, riding position is super-comfortable, handles well, stops really well and is economical too
 
2/ Tricky because most bikes are fun but a Honda C90 would always be a laugh. However I'd probably have a  Zero electric bike as they are an absolute hoot to ride.
 
3/ Suzuki Super Six 250. We can't help but look back to the past through rose-tinted glasses, but the Super Six was my first real performance bike I just couldn't wait to ride it to work every day.
 
4/ So many to choose but I boiled it down to two, TC Christenson's "Hogslayer" double Norton drag bike (Saw it fire up, then sit on the start line ticking over on 90% + nitro fuel whilst the British challengers were struggling to hold their motors together) or Mike Hailwood's IOM TT winning bevel Ducati. In the end the Duke edges it.
 
5/ Allen Millyard's giant V-twin The Flying Millyard as it perfectly demonstrates what can be achieved in a basic workshop provided you have the skills, knowledge and confidence, none of which I have.

OK, i'll bite while my paint is drying

 

1.  TDM900. Got one.

 

2.  Fantic 305 trials - air cooled simplicity and proper seat height. Got one.

 

3.  Ducati 200 Elite.  Got one, undergoing resto while I'm under lock-down.  My first road bike in 1968.

 

4.  Foggy's WSB 916.  Obvs.

 

5.  MV Agusta 750s.  Beauty, symmetry, quality, exotic.

Here's mine:



1.Everyday general purpose  Hard this one. Much loved TDM too tall and heavy for me now. And since this category is what I used to do with it: 1940s Ariel 350, ex-Despatch rider's. I even rode it to school. Like most, I want it back! I'd leave it khaki now;



2.Fun bike:  Yamaha MT-07 A great Yamaha creation;



3.Practical classic or vintage: My grandparents' 1920s combination. So far unidentified bike make (pic)- anyone know? They both rode it.



4. Famous historic:  A 'dustbin'-clad bike ridden by Geoff Duke - Norton 350



5. Ornament   Harley D. V-Rod. Still cannot take my eyes off it. But then again, I as I am downsized somewhat(!), the Honda C125. I told the dealer I wanted one for my lounge and he said he would give me a good deal![attachment=o12844]

Maybe you got it. It is very similar to the one in your link. The tank and front fork is obviously the same. The registration No. is not far away either. Never thought of him pedalling too! Thank you. He found himself in a ditch on one occasion. He used it to get to work - probably to get to the station. My grandmother took her sister to and from the station. In pristine condition that one looks fab.

1/ Every day general purpose "do everything". Has to be a TDM900 of course, any other answer on here would have a lynch mob round to our house. 2m apart obviously.
 
2/ Fun bike. An old trials bike from my youth - Either a Montesa 348 Cota, or a Bultaco, or I always had a soft spot for the Beamish Suzuki too. 
 
3/ Practical classic or vintage.Laverda Jota in orange, although I'm not quite sure that meets the "practical" remit.
 
4/ A famous historic bike - A Matchless G50, a 500cc single racer and general thing of beauty
 
5/ An "ornament" bike for the lounge or bedroom.A Triumph T160V, in the purple & white colour scheme. I had one on my bedroom wall as a kid, it would be nice to have a real one to look at ;-)

Ok, struggled with a couple of these.

1. The TDM is going nowhere.....except at my vikingesque funeral.



2. For fun...mmmm...my old army Bombardier 250. Wish I had a pound a laugh I had on that.



3. Always fancied the Sunbeam S8. I'd have to wear tweeds and deer stalker tho'.



4. Great escape Triumph. The TR6 not the actual jump bike.....autographed of course.



5 Captain America I think, just for the icon value.
