Advice Needed. Best Battery. - AdamTDM - 10-11-2024

As the title, my battery is on its last legs. It was fitted to my 2002 900 when I brought it three years ago.

But despite being kept on a tender it is now starting to get sluggish starting.

So I would appreciate suggestions on what’s the best battery to replace it with, thankyou.

Adam.

I've tried many different brands of battery in different bikes over the years and have come to the conclusion that the best for me is YUASA

Yuasa and Motobatt, both are good.

Yuasa, and also I have my doubts about leaving a battery on a tender. Unless you're leaving a bike un-used for months, or years, in which case remove the battery, I'd install a digital volt meter and keep an eye on the generator and battery. My last Yuasa on my 3vd lasted 7 years

The best battery...is one not left on a minimate!

Very true 👍

I've also heard that Yuasa aren't as good as they used to be, summat about merging with an udder company.

I got great results with a GS battery and some peeps are saying Exide batteries are good.

Yuasa  here too. Last one lasted 12 years on the 900. Oem fitment lasted 4.

I don’t keep mine plugged into a battery minder either. If the bikes laid up, I usually top up a put once a month.

Regarding the tender, I don't use one because they're not completely predictable, and instead I use an old plug in timer with a 7 day duration and that brings my 3 Amp charger on for an hour once a week.

Thats a good idea. One of them little timers.

I pinched that from Favs. He mentioned it a year or two ago. I had an old plug in timer I didn't use any more, so it got a second life.

You can pick them up easily for under a tenner.

My bike had a weak battery at the time but all through winter I could start the bike when i wanted just to see if it was still had enough juice, even when below freezing.

I use an optimate minimate when I think my battery has been left a long time without use (2 months ?), but I only leave it on until the green light shows and then I remove the charger
