Pump It Up! - Rickbarks - 26-03-2012

Does anyone else out there get p***ed off with the Air Pumps available in petrol garages? I don't mind paying 20p, but for what? If they're not wildly inaccurate, they're so big and clunky it's difficult to connect to a bike without really bending the valve...... are there answers out there......

Angled tyre valves

Futtfutt pump !

A small compressor at home which is still fiddly to fit the airhose onto the valve Should pay for itself in 312yrs.

Something like THIS, but wouldn't want to leave it on the bike all the time, and might be a pain to put on when you want to use it.

I use a Halfords compressor that plugs into a cigarette lighter socket. Over inflate by a couple of PSI, and then use my trust pressure gauge and let some out till i've got to the right PSI.

Note to self, check pressure when I get home...haven't checked them for a while

GENIUS ! I've never seen one of those before!? Just bought it ! - many thanks! What kind of gauge / compressor do you use? A quick ggogle shows Amazon do one for as little as £20.00 LINKY does anyone else use these?

Pump It Up! - Chris - 26-03-2012

That'd do wonders for yer wheel balancing...

If you fit & remove, t'would be best to over inflate first to allow for the fiddlyness.

DO NOT leave one attached to valve.
It could rip out your valve

Pump It Up! - dablik - 26-03-2012

I've got a Halfords portable compressor (it's a car on, so isn't small enough to be kept on the bike. And also a little Halfords keyring style pressure gauge.

Halfords site is down for maintenance at the mo, so can't link to the exact items.

I like the Slime one linked above, looks really tidy, and a decent size!

Pump It Up! - dablik - 27-03-2012

TonyD put me on to that Slime compressor,,, it's compact,,,blew the car tyre up pretty fast....

Pump It Up! - NZTDMGUY - 27-03-2012

I bought a few sets of these in various pressures.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Tire-Pressure-M...=item336ea7a35d

At least they give me a quick visual when air is needed.

Cheers from NZ

Same here, and I've got a couple of those little CO2 cylinders under the seat for if I get a puncture when out and about. Must say I'm tempted by one of these little mini compressors though, I made quite a lot of use of Tony's when I had a slow puncture in Germany http://www.motopumps.com/

Hey. Whats wrong with a healthy pair of lungs and some tightly pursed lips?

Pump It Up! - fung - 29-03-2012

A bicycle track pump with a presta/schrader lock on head suits me.
topeak make one called a 'joe blow' and it is a rebuildable unit not too expensive.
90deg replacement valve units are the way to go when you put new tyres on as they get included in the balance.
too easy !!
cheers

Some 5 years later my stalwart foot pump is puffed out and has been scrapped. I have bought three replacements, including handpumps, which have all failed miserably.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a quality hand or foot pump? I am not even sure of Oxford quality.

You've put an additional metal weight on the end of a flexible rubber stem and then spin it at high speed.

Back pressure    :rotflmmfao:

I've made it back to civilisation several times with one of these Motopressor,   twice as fast as a Slime.
