Do any of your take a dog on your bikes? Having sadly said goodbye to our lovely Great Dane, were getting something more manageable (tiny in fact), in the not too distant future, with every intention of taking it with us on the bikes. Ive studied all the various options and the Bagster Puppy looks good. However, it looks huge and I struggled to reach the bars with an ordinary Bagster tank bag. Im thinking maybe a modified top box might be the answer but all suggestions most welcome. I dont want to opt for any kind of harness/back pack affair. It needs to be the pups own space with room to lie down and have a snooze on longer trips.

Cool thanks Fixit. Weâve thought long and hard about the safety aspect. Weâre both extremely careful and Iâm sure weâd be even more wary (if thatâs possible), with a pooch on board. I transported horses for years (not on bikes, obviously), and itâs a whole new level of responsibility.

 I'ld love to take our bassett out, but he weighs 5 stone so that would require a sidecar !The smaller one, a beagle cross, might be up for it, she's just turned 2 years and has mellowed out really well, so I'll watch this with interest !

That was the first thing that went through my mind, the dogs behaviour. We have a new puppy, rescued from the Heinz dumpster. I'm guessing Fox Terrier, Bull Terrier, dingo x Kangaroo. At the moment anything that moves gets nailed.

Howzabout using the Bagster thingie on the pillion seat? Bagster do an Easy harness which should be adaptable to fit over the rear seat and allow the doggie box to be removed.
I don't know about the sizes, tho' - it might be too long to fit on the seat and leave room for you.
There are videos on YouTube of various dog/carrier/bike combos too.

Made me laugh, we got the beagle from a breeder who still supplies hunting packs. He also bred jack russels (So we wonder if she's a cross) . A farm in East Yorkshire, the dogs always in outdoors kennels, all facing to the fields, never seeing a human except at feeding time. I think this one got rejected because she's too soft, but has all the natural prey drive when left alone. On tonights walk through the woods she reappeared from some bushes carrying a rotten deer front leg ! She would want to run after a cat or a pigeon !

They're not like those big fellas at Beecraigs, red deer I think those are aren't they ? These are the smaller 'suburban' roe deer. The walk through the woods we take is half lit by the council lights, but then we take what was the old road before the A899 was built alongside it, which you can't see from the A899, and use our torches for that bit. I think it was in October of last year we saw 4 deer in under 800yards, either on the footpath or crossing it.

Bassett hounds have the second best sense of smell of all dogs, so you can imagine how that walk goes...he switches his ears off completely and those dumpy little legs and big thigh muscles give him 4 wheel drive torque levels !

We get a lot more badgers now too, cheeky beggars just trot up and down the footpaths as shortcuts, and foxes too. I think it might well be due to lockdown and them feeling less distracted by people and traffic.

We got the beagle when she was 8 weeks, and the bassett was 2 yrs, and he pushed her around a bit, but then around 18 weeks she realised she had grown quick enough to outpace him and from there on I would say she just torments him now to, get her own back. I filmed this at about the critical time....

I love feisty dogs! Our friends 55kg Mastiff is terrified of the dingo.

Talking of Deer, we once had a small roe deer jump off a bank in front of us. The Dane, moving at the speed of light quite unimaginable for a 60kg dog, caught it in mid air by the head. She was most put out when we told her she had to drop it and there was no way she could take it home. The deer made off into undergrowth with not a mark on it. She also brought me a live and unharmed fox on another occasion. She was the gentlest dog you could wish for but her boar hound heritage left her with a very high prey drive and the speed and agility of a greyhound.

Got lucky and bought an as new Bagster Puppy at a very good price on eBay. Time will tell if I can reach the bars with it on the bike! Pupper is only 2 weeks old yet so we have a bit of time to work things out! Nothing like planning ahead.

We modified an old Top Sellerie tank bank and installed her in that. Shes 8 months old now and loves every minute on the bike. We only have to get our gear out and she goes nuts.
