Anyone dabbled? 

 

Im just curious as I have been doing a bit with my latest project. 

 

Ive 3d printed a radiator side fairing and a an air scoop for my VFR1200 project:

The hard part is the modelling, ive spent a few months working out how to create 3d images using photogrammetry and importing them into Fusion 360 so I can make the parts I want.

Now that I kind of know what I am doing I am thinking about making some bits for the TDM. 

My first thoughts were to scan and reproduce those fillets that go under the seat. I think I could make those fairly easily, and also make them way stronger than the stock ones. 

 

Following that Id like to make a new lower side fairing for the 900, and its just looks daft and completely the wrong shape in my opinion. 

 

Just wondered if anyone else had done anything along these lines?

Looking good.

As you might remember I made a lot of 3D printed brackets to repair and refit some broken bodywork.

I can tell straight away from the good quality of the vertical print that you got the printer set up and leveled correctly, that's always worth spending time on.

 

Taken to it's extreme you can make side panels and stuff like this guy did, He worked for the BMW design team at the time, bit of a head start !

He printed the front cowl and side panels, not sure what method he used (FDM etc)

You know what I've completely forgotten that you mucked on with 3d printers. that knowledge must have just left my head.

 

So that guy printed his stuff in nylon, I think my gear will be made in PETG.  its just easier to work with and I dont need the extra abbrasion resistance that nylon provides. 

 

I might also be painting them anyway.

 

 

As soon as I get some time I will scan in those fillets and reproduce them, bare with me

Fillets are on my getaroundtouit list too, but a long way down. I have a broken RHS one. I was going to redesign something completely different, but would be happy with an original one though

I haven't, the problem a while ago was that I didn't have much access to 3d scanning.

 

But I note now there's a few phone apps which you can use to scan a part, then send that scanned file to someone with a 3D printer.
