S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - tullyhubbert - 28-04-2013 Last Saturday our local Yamaha dealer was having an open day so I blagged a test ride on a XT1200Z and with my brother riding my trusty 9er in tow I headed to Dundrod (UlsterGP circuit) for a few laps. The route up took in some city riding and B roads so a varied test ride.  ![]()  ![]()  My thoughts. Its tallish, I'm 5'10" ish but with the seat at its lowest setting I can manage ok. Seat was very comfortable but towards the end I was thinking it sloped towards the front, maybe as a consequence of the low setting. Any owners confirm if it sits the same (slope ways) on all the height settings?  Fuelling seems good, less vibes at low revs compared to the TDM.  Its very stable when cornering compared to my 9er which is more prone to moving about.  The bars are wide and more vibrations through them compared to my 9er.  Grunt ways, its only a little (If any) faster in a drag race Vs the 9er. Tried this both ways swapping bikes with same results. This is unimportant but had to be tested ... lol  Seems to be economic. When I picked it up the average miles was displaying 51.7mpg. despite the varied riding we done It was reading 52mpg when I returned it.  They are expensive!!!  I know big Dave has one and someone had one for a fairly short time. Your thoughts appreciated.  Old age is creeping up on me I fear and I'm thinking of selling/trading my Blade against something different. All options are still open, I'm not even sure what style of bike I want. Will almost certainly be keeping the 9er though. S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - wicklamulla - 28-04-2013 i initially disliked them but they are 'a grower'  bit loike a shania twain song if ya know what i mean.  I'd have one but would wanna test ride a 3 cylinder Triumph 1200cc explorer thingy too. S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - ChrisG - 28-04-2013 Martin (Catsbum) had one for a while but sold it for the Triumph Explorer, Big Dave on the other hand loves his.  They're both in France at the moment but back in the next day or two I think. S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - sidarta - 28-04-2013 Hi tullyhubbert!   Much good your comparison! As the position leaning forward, I believe a support handlebars should eliminate the problem. Ballet dancer is that gets on tiptoes.  Recently a member TDM900brasil, made ââa trip from Brazil, Argentina and Chile through (Lake District) He reported that in the Andes Road rÃpio (= gravel), the burst buffer TDM900 ass and a retainer of the front suspension. Reported to have traveled a total of 7.263km and spent 370 liters 19.3 km / l. I then questioned about XTZ1200, who was the friend who traveled with him. He said that the 1200cc consumption was similar to 9niner and presented no mechanical problem. He was impressed with the 1200.  Cheers  Sidarta S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - marklucas - 28-04-2013 Interesting to hear about the super ten. Surprised for you to say the 900 moves in corners, mine is very stabl, and at speed, all standard, even fully loaded with swmbo through the alps and pyrenees. The new versys gets good reviews and is priced well, but a but ugly. S10 Thoughts ... On bad roads 19.3km/l is very good, but my TDM seems to get much better MPG at altitude. In the high passes in the South of France I generally get 65ish mpg (23km/l). S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - DazzerB - 29-04-2013 Sat on the new Tiger "sport" 1050 yesterday - very nice and only £9999  S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - catsbum - 29-04-2013 Back from France Maybe I got a bad Tenere but I F*cking hated it Done 2000 miles on the !200 Explorer and It really is the bike to have Perfect ride and thats that  Cats S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - tullyhubbert - 30-04-2013 Back from France Maybe I got a bad Tenere but I F*cking hated it Done 2000 miles on the !200 Explorer and It really is the bike to have Perfect ride and thats that   lol ... to be specific what didn't you like about it in particular. You're prob thinking like me, big parallel 270 degreaa twin like a 9er, whats not to like?  A sign of the times (Fuel prices) but I have to ask, whats fuel consumption like on the 1200 Explorer? A friend of a friend has an 800 Tiger and he swears it drinks like a fish (Strange saying)  @ Luke, not complaining about the 9ers handling but its lighter and does tend to move move expecially on irregular surfaces, the S10 felt heavier and def held better lines. Over here roads folk are very fond of digging the roads up for miles leaving a 3 feet wide strip of different height tarmac for miles, this didn't bother the S10 at all. S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - Robodene - 02-05-2013 "They are expensive!!!"  The Japanese Yen has/is undergoing a sharp downturn in value. Business columns are talking of a Japanese revival based on this, particularly in their R&D. So, Yamaha's prices might become hard to justify, and maybe we will see more new Yam bikes in due course. S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - peronne - 03-05-2013 Im with Tully on this one Cats. What wasnt right with the S10. Its got the lot ie. big twin, comfort, spoked wheels but tubless tyres & shaft drive. Plus all the electronics(I would never use) Please enlighten us S10 Thoughts ... And Qs - amarko5 - 04-05-2013 Quote:Back from Francei have the tiger 800 and got 47mpg on a VERY quick (speed wise ) 3,380 mile tour of europe, can easily get 50 to 60 mpg if ridden sensibly :-)  if his drinks like a fish he is being heavy handed cos if you really twist the throttle into the 8 to 10k rpm area it does drop into the 30,s S10 Thoughts ... My 9er is still going strong and looking pretty dang mint for 33K miles. It's a keeper now, my longest owned bike and the one I've had most fun out off.  I'd like to have an S10 as a second bike now, limited (Make that none in NI) supply so does anyone have or know of anything available?  S10 Thoughts ...
