What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - jbx - 17-06-2016

I was in my car at a a redlight when a silver 9er stopped right beside the door, and I was like "wow that's a very nice bike !".

Then the lights turned to green, the 9er faded away in a snap and I was like "wow that's a nice mighty bike !"... Smile

Good morning,

Today I have new tires on my TDM 900a, Bridgestone battlax T 30 evo.

My old tires where after 12450 km completely gone, the original Bridgestone T220 tires are not fine tires.

Have a nice day

A late one lastnight attending to my multicoloard handguards

Over the past few weeks more and more leds have failed, they are designed for 12V use but I guess the 14.2V of the bike cooked them !

So i removed the cheap Chinese multicoloured leds from the cheap Chinese handguards and fitted other cheap Chinese leds to them.

They do have amber leds built in, to act as indicator repeaters, so I'll need to make a box of trickery up to dim the white leds when the amber flashes.

hallo fixitsan,

Looks nice, which hand guards do you have on your bike??

Do you also know which position is the best with the TPS sensor??

Thanks,

Refitted my nonfango side panniers

Balanced my carburetors with the aid of my tall, narrow, olive oil bottles. Spot on, on 4th stab (10 minutes).  Tongue

Had the tank up to fit a new air filter, so decided to fit my Henty bits and pay my last visit to the infamous Cold Start Mechanism. Strange how Yamaha fitted other bellows I counted 2, but not on the CSM. Not sure if newer models have them though, seriously bloody ought to have. If there's a more frustrating, pull your hair out job than fitting the filter housing back over the manifolds, I haven't found it. There's a knack, but it takes a lot swearing before I found it again.

Cheers for the bits Lee. CSM now Hentyfied.

MOT passed for the MK1

Now, do I keep the mk1 and sell the 900....or the other way around. I need to release some capital and make room for a 125...my daughter just started work at Saltire Motorcycles and it looks like they're sponsoring her through the CBT

Either way a MK1 or 900 will be for sale soon , I just need a few days to see if I gel with the mk1 first

In hindsight and as much as i love the 900 i think in your shoes i would keep the mk1, the 900 maybe a bit more planted on a big tour loaded with luggage but, the mk1 can do it all with ease, i was loaded way more on the mk1 to Slovakia than i ever have been with the 900, and seems to me the mk1 was belting around the B roads, for me the change was more to do with maintenance (and a cracking price) and while some think the mk1 is easier to maintain i disagree, for me the 9r is a doddle, well now i have a fettlin award maybe the reverse is true  :dunno:  there's just summit about a big red mk1 tdm  Wub  other colours come very close.

Nice choice to have either way though  :good:

Keep the Mk1 mate....iconic bike that kicked off the dual sport genre....great fun...well capable and to me looks great..but I'm obviously biased and luv two round headlights....classic

Today I helped Aswin a club member from the tdm club in holland with his bike.

Below 4000 rpm the bike was terrible to ride. jumpy jerky on off it was not funny.

So I helped him solve this problem, air box cover modification, new air filter from nipparts J 1321029,

relocated the IAT sensor out of the airbox to the front of the bike, checked the throttle bodies and the vacuum.

Changed the CO from 18/18 to 25/25 with stock exhaust.

Aswin took the bike for a test ride and he was very glad with the results.

His bike runs perfect, from 1200 rpm till high rpm in every gear.

Aswin is very glad with the results. total costs € 25,00.

Oh boy...

I was gelling with the mk1, I had made my mind up to keep it and sell the 9er, and 300 yards from my house I lost all drive.

It turns out that Mr Dufus Bodgitt has fooled me completely...a new rear sprocket, a good chain, a look up the chain guard to see a nice new front sprocket, but it turned out to have been welded on.

I'm thankful it happened when it did, despite having to push it uphill 300 yards, because i had been 20 miles into the country with no phone signal shortly before.

F^"%£$ Sake !

No splines on the output shaft at all.....needs a new output shaft i guess...I can do it but don't really need another project at this time.

Or £450 with a full MOT, buyer collects

Does anyone happen to know if these TRX850 gears would do....the output splines look good (my Mk1 is from 1990)

TRX gearbox is a straight swap but, you'll have a much taller first gear.

Thanks, that's good to know.....Could I swap first gear over ?

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Studley Ramrod - 25-06-2016

That I don't know unfortunately.  I used a TRX third gear, straight swap over to my mk2a 8fiddly.  You might find your answer by looking up the parts numbers of the 1st gear/axles.

If I were you, I'd swap your mk1 gearbox over for a mk2a gearbox, if you can get one at the right price.  Very similar ratios and it's a better quality gearbox.  It's also easier swapping over complete boxes, than swapping bits of 'em over. Smile
