Ridden it, for the first time in fecking ages!

I doubt I did more than a few hundred miles last year, and other than taking it down for the MoT I think the last time I rode it was probably in about June.

Finally got out at the week end for a shakedown after all the maintenance, then realised last night it was still on sorn  Huh  all sorted now.

200 mile ride to/from Brecon, just following my nose.

Wind chill still a factor towards the end of the day.

Used over previous 4 years worth of rear brake pad on a back lane.

Never seen so many hidden bends, strung out one after the other on odd gradient changes. Required head re-calibration.

Get home in one piece. Sort of explains why no one else was in a rush, despite the empty road, Sunday bike fest.

Strange. No aches or pains either.

Oh that's a great ride out! Forum needs a "like" button, so much to like  :good:

Went out on the freshly salted roads Huh , perhaps the council have to get their "quota" down or maybe they think it's the time of year for snow or something  :locco: , who knows but it makes for an interesting tip into the bends

We did a similar run from Hungerford last year. Lovely roads but it was a bit busy when we went and there a few power ranges who needed avoiding!

Took the new one out for a run this morning and had a blast. Then something came up and I had to go out again so took the white one to get a comparison. Considering they are 9 years and 50,000 miles apart, old whitey is pretty good. There is a sloght roughness that needs to be ironed out, but otherwise, it is still a cracking bike. Glad I decided to keep it.

5 hours fun riding alone, saw loads of bikes heading up Weardale so I opted for the deserted direction. Riding around testing new bar risers and getting my eye in in Northumberland n Cumberland - some fords were missing cobbles from their bottoms but the deepest water was only about 9 inches - cornering = both edges of rear tyre achieved on inspection  :good:

Air time causes the ABS lamp to flash until ignition off/on

Got a bit of Drift Stealth 2 video to post for those who have never been N/Land when I get round to it.

Washed & FS365 applied liberally.

Removed carbs - eventually (sitting on parts for a long time) servicing them. Hoped to find cracked intake rubbers, but sadly they seemed cracked only on the outside. Hope plungers are shitty and so may explain ~10% raised fuel consumption. Gaskets, float valves, etc. ready.

Rode all about Fife, on the way to meeting my daughter to buy her a lunch (you know how it goes....)

And tested my homemade automatic brake light switch, triggered by engine braking...... a few more tweaks and it'll be good Smile

Need one!

Want one!

Must have one!

Everyone thinks my rear brake light is bust and I've upset a few fellow bikertailgaters too!

That's why I'm making it....the level of engine braking which is generated by the TDM is so high that I thought I should warn people behind me !

At the moment I have one and a half versions. One connects to the wheel speed sensor and works well, it can be adapted for other bikes with tweaks, as long as they have a wheel speed sensor and a 3 wire tail/brakelight (like the TDM)

The other half a version is stuck to my tank with low-tack double sided tape, it uses an accelerometer to detect deceleration, this means there is no wheel speed sensor required (suitable for most bikes). But, it takes a lot of work in software to separate the road undulations and the end of an acceleration period from a true engine braking event. I've got on top of it, but it can only ever be a reasonable compromise because there are so many variables.

At the moment, for the sort of engine braking which might need brake application for other bikes and most cars, the brakelight is turned on....for any very rapid deceleration the brakelight is flashed at a 3Hz rate.

Perhaps I should focus on the working wheel speed sensor version and invite a few volunteers to test it ?  As well as a connection to the wheel speed sensor (on the front sprocket on our bikes) it requires a connection to ground, a switched positive supply (rear brake switch ?) and the wire to the brakelight needs to be cut and the two ends joined to two wires coming from the control box.

I originally tried to capture the data from the dashboard k-line connection, but the speed signal is encoded in a way which makes it difficult to extract.....I can get the first digit easily 1,2,3 etc but the units digit seems to be encoded another way, so I scrapped that in favour of a more generic solution.

I'll keep you posted if you're interested Smile

Not on mine!

The ABS version has no such item. I assume this is because the ABS does the speed calculation from the wheel sensors.

You can come-see if you want.
