Yesterday we dropped Paul's STen at the dealer where he bougt it from. After the rear rim cracked he wanted to close this chapter. Then took a looksee at the Triumph 1200 Explorer, Paul is still undecided what to buy next. After that he got ye olde XT to have some wheels and we went out in the usual formation, wife on the back, Paul as wingman for a little afternoon coffee run. Today I'll give the TDM a cursory cleaning. And go out with the pedal bike.

I'm 5'11 and they allow for much more bend in my arms compared to stock bars.

I had to rearrange righthand wiring to allow full rotation (lock to lock) and remove a couple of cable ties on lefthand side to prevent any strain there.

Really need to lean forward if you want to hustle through twisties.

Feels like it should be great for touring though.

Good to know. Flying in the face of wisdom i pushed my bars further forward. It made the steering more controllable when leaned over, but the effect on the wrist was about the same

Got the 9'er back together after cleaning some parts and fitting my Henty brass chain adjuster bolts. Big Grin  Also did the obligatory 'repair the infill panel after removal' jobby <_<  Then went for a pootle.  Called in at the Ollerton roundabout cafe for a quick cuppa, lots of bikers there.  Then had a blast around the fringes of Clumber Park/Sherwood forest.  Smile

Got a brief shock on the way home, low oil warning light came on for about 5 seconds.  Got home and checked the oil and all fine there. :dunno:

Nice to get out with some warm sunshine and dry roads.

Went a ride round the bottom left corner of Scotland for about 340 miles, visiting two lighthouses.

Started off a bit cool and got more so across the Lang Wang (A71 SW of Edinburgh) - new snow down the middle of the road!

Warmed up further South and West and the sun visor was down all day.

Following my pal's MV touring thingie I found the number plate bobbing up and down with the rear wheel quite amusing.

The new tyres (PR4) and C&S set are now fully run in. Just need to clean off the crud from the day.

Oh, dumbo here managed to lose his phone - doh. Luckily it's nowt fancy and on PAYG.

Picked up the bike from friend's garage, parked outside for carburetter overhaul.

New thing last 2 years is that bike shows absolutely no sign of igniting before applying start spray. Weak fuel pump ? Dunno...

So far so good, rest of bike seems fine  :good:

have given myself 2 weeks to sort out carbs, as bus period ticket expires....

We bimbled down to Eastbourne via Royal Tunbridge Wells then on to Beachy Head, Seaford, Newhaven and Brighton. 200 miles in all in great weather. A few good brew stops having taken a picnic instead of forking out at greasy spoon cafes. We even spotted a peregrine falcon annoying nesting fulmars and pigeons in the cliffs at Newhaven.

Fitted PB SS spindle nut then went for a ride, got wet....

Love the pics Kelpie (and all the other peoples pics too), nice pair of TDM's there.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - leehenty - 11-04-2016

Typical ex military there, never without his brew kit. :good:  I went for a run to sunny hunny on sunday with elder brother on Z750 and nephew with his new bit of fluff, to see if she would like biking, I took her on the back, as I'm considered the slow by my brother. nephew is doing his direct access soon, so the new bit of fluff needed to be 'trained'. He will start his biking life on the family old nail, the 600 Divvy moving up when he has a few years no claims.

Enjoyed eyeballing everyone els'es bikes, some nice stuff out there but some of the extreme custom jobs are not practical for any miles.

Unusually the sun was shining, but I didn't take my bucket and spade, so I couldn't enjoy the beach.

Fitted the 9er with a new chain, and the mk1 got a secondhand rear wheel (with almost new Avon tyre)

mk1 just needs some rear brake pads and i think it'll pass the MOT

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Catteeclan - 17-04-2016

OK it's not my TDM but I took the back wheel off the s10 so I can take it into work next week to fit the new tyre.

Not a drop of oil or grease to be seen other than on the drive gear which slots onto the rear wheel. [Image: IMG_0254_zpsbcz19tty.jpg]

I had to get pliers on the speed sensor as the bloody thing was stuck in with the corroding alloy.

Have to say it all came apart very easy other than that.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Galilee - 17-04-2016

More 'attempted to do' than 'done' to my TDM today.

Removed seat, tank and fairing.

Installed Oxford heated grips.

Installed power outlet (cigarette lighter type)

Installed Garmin GPS (including a USB power outlet)

I plan on powering this through a fuse box (4 fuses so i have one spare) and feed the fuse box through a 40A relay.

So the questions arising are:

Any good places to put fuse box and relay? The best would be under the seat, but i think the seat takes a lot of what looks like available space. links to pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Power to the relay is directly from the  battery, but what's the best way to switch the relay? Rear light? the pre-wired fuse socket only has 15cm wires so it would be very convenient to find something close to the relay position.

Now i have 4 separate ground wires for different things. What's the norm for connecting ground? Wherever there is a bolt to the frame available? or everything on the battery ground point? I probably need a longer screw if i go for the latter.

Time for tea and cake while i wait for the wisdom of carpe.
