What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 03-04-2016

Sideways flying birds, sideways leaning bike, a few shipwrecks and 5 of the south Orkney sea barriers which interconnect the lower isles. (The Drift Ghost HD got a weathersealing test that day !)

Well after 2 1/2 years, much pulling of hair, being stolen and wrecked by some scrotes,a full carb rebuild and clean, replacement float bowl&  new battery she actually fired up and ran without covering my feet in petrol wooooo hooo I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel - exhaust is shot to bits but the ol bus runs runs I tells ya Smile :badgerrock:

Quote:It's a Drift Ghost HD, Kelpie. I use the Drift stick-on mount to fix it  to the right fairing.

I've got some footage to share later (once I've edited down) which I recorded in the stormy conditions yesterday. the camera is completely waterproof and did a great job.

The neat thing is that the front lens rotates, so whichever way up you mount it you can spin the lens to set the output straight again

I just wish I'ld thought to wipe the lens before heading down Berriedale, but the lens had at least 100 miles of wet A-road muck on it.  Oh, well it's just an excuse to do it again on another day !

Fixitsan, i'm running an Drift 720HD and tried today for the 1st time, i attched it to my helmet but like the idea of what you've done in mounting on the side panel. Have you just stuck it on the panel with the mounts supplied?

Ive got a big issue with wind noise as you have, tried the old sock fix today with no joy... any ideas?

Yes i used the curved mount on the side panel. I needed to buy another because i had used the supplied one on the helmet.

Im playing with sound issues i have a piece of cellotape over the mic hole. Looking at other options but i think an external mic secured somewhere out of the wind is the answer. I am going to try soldering a resistor on the mic itself if possible

Just come home from for the first long ride of the year aafter and after riding A-Road only from Cardigan to Basingstoke and back, in various weather combinations and road surfaces, I can honestly say the Michelin Pilot Roads (3 front / 4 rear) are bloomin marvellous, paired up with Renthal 758 Ultra Lows and my new Shark Explore R, I had an amazing journey, so much fun even on wet tarmac.

Much better tyres than the Battleax BT023s.

I've just tried an external mic, it's just a cheap internet chat headset, wrapped in kitchen towel, put inside a rubber glove. I installed it under the seat beneath the tools.

I'm sure a bit more of a play with the sound quality in my video program would do it justice, but it's a definite improvement

Here's how that sounds...

I bought mine with '21s on, upgraded when the time came to '23s, so didn't know any different. I noticed the strange way they wear ie squaring off and "knobbling" of the edges, and also on occasion the rear would slip on a wet road for no apparent reason.

Confidence was lost, time to replace both tyres at once came along so research was done and the Michelins ticked me boxes.

It seems to roll along much more smoothly, reminded me a little of my old Vespa (which also ran Michelins (S1's)).

My 9yr old 9er battery have seen better days. Finally ordered a new Lithium battery from Italy for only 95 EUR. Will be interesting to see if it'll do the job, today and coming years.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Wedren - 05-04-2016

Fitted new Ognibene 15 tooth front sprocket to replace JT

Fitted new all singing all dancing DID gold chain

Fitted new dash infill panel

Rearranged and refitted oil pressure and Gammatronix LED's

Fitted new SMIDSY indicator warning light

Fitted new SMIDSY brake light flasher

Removed Accumen gear indicator.

Fitted the gear indicator in the tacho. Mod. Maybe have to strip the switch again as No.3 doesn't work and it's not the dash.

Polished it whilst in the garage.

Not road tested yet as it keeps raining when I get the chance.

By the way SMIDSY are an excellent company and deserve custom.

Gasman: SNAP

Yesterday I fitted full C&S kit - Ognibene (try saying that quickly!) cushioned front sprocket, but standard 16T; DID VX gold chain; AFAM rear sprocket 42T. Bought from Bike Torque via their eBay site Performoto.

The front sprocket is a tight fit on the splines with no suggestion of slop as discussed in a thread on here.

The old original front @ 31,000 odd miles is well worn:-

[attachment=o7845]

I wonder how long the fancy orange will last!

[attachment=o7846]

The rear sprocket shows nowhere near the same amount of wear:-

[attachment=o7847]

I was puzzling over the time it took me when I realised that my previous experience with rear sprockets changes was with VFRs where you don't have to take the wheel off!

While in the mood I added a second hooter to make my presence known should it be necessary:-

[attachment=o7848]

It is held by one of the engine mount clamp bolts on a bracket:-

Off now for a ride.

Today I fitted a pair of dual tone horns, and am surprised by how loud they are.

Also started fitting a pair of spots. (they need extra waterproofing which I'll do with silicon tomorrow). Surprised how bright they are, and with an additional small bracket they fit tidily using the radiator mount bolt
