What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - steve27bha - 03-03-2016

I've finished the annual service and used the 50,000Km / 30.000 mile schedule with some added items:-

New tyres (Michelin Pilot Road 4 replacing Pirelli Angel GTs. Nowt wrong with the GTs but last time they were significantly cheaper than the PR3 of the time but not so this time around, and I'd really rated the PR3s on my VFR800. However the front only comes in the PR4 GT version for our 18" wheel)

A change of fork oil (three years or so after fitting Hyperpro springs and oil). A tool from the back of the drawer came in handy on the fork yoke clamp bolts. The top ones cannot be accessed by sockets without removing the fairing and my allen keys seemed a bit chocolate-y. This Teng socket/bit swivel holder got the 6mm bit in easily; I just had to guess the torque to do up the bolts.

Full strip and grease of the rear suspension linkage (no problem removing the frame bearing collar after last year's strip). My EazyRiser lift made access easy.

Full clean of the exhaust (including buying a proper socket to remove the lambda sensor after really struggling last time with an open end spanner)

Fit Yamaha belly pan (bought from Latestarter of this parish) after repaint and addition of my red pinstripes.

All being well the bike and I shall get a shake-down tomorrow on our first run of the year.

Nice job Steve have exactly all this to do in a couple of weeks weather allowing, exhausts of for polishing though  :um:

Edit..Are the Lambda sensors really so problematic with a spanner or will that tool save me lots of swearing !

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - ramotdm - 04-03-2016

fitted new chain and sprockets :good:

Fitted new temporary grips, new adjustable levers and finally got the Pro-Bolt colour coded fairing screws fitted!

On Wednesday, assisted by the wind, I decided to lay my bike on the grass at the side of the road and see if my handguards would do their job, they did! So did the hip and shoulder pads, boots and helmet!!

She's now in the shop for new bars (Rethal 758s) and offside front indicator.

So no major damage to me, the bike or my bank account (as I was about I change the bars anyway!).

😃😃

As you can see I have a workshop so the weather is not a problem. I took several days to do the work, making sure all was well and cleaning where possible. I used Autosol on the pipes having had them polished three years ago when I got the bike.

Last time I barely got the lambda sensor off with an open end spanner before the flats rounded off. This socket made it easy with a breaker bar and careful alignment of the socket to the flats. I would have struggled to keep everything in line with just a ratchet handle since the heat really tightens up the joint. The breaker meant I could lean on the bar rather than jerk the handle. I was going to get a 3/8" item since I use that size socketry whenever possible, but reviews reported that they twist and open up so I got the 1/2" item and recommend that with a 2' bar.

Okey dokey thanks, done all the other jobs plenty of times but never taken the exhausts off, not sure if i will yet..

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - chrisr - 05-03-2016

you could just leave it in but unplug it Cliff. (Mr. H has a tool for removing  snapped header studs by the way - should you need it!)

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - dablik - 05-03-2016

Cheers Chris have to have a look at doing that instead, wont be no snapped header bolts i reckon, got proper Henty stuff on them 18 months ago  Smile

Installed the fan cooled LED headlight bulb. A whole lot whiter than the Phillips Xtreme which I had. Beam is not as focused as H7 incandescent, if the back of the shed is to be believed.

Lost a wellnut & screw somewhere behind the fairing (again) - ordered new.

Road test in near future will determine the actual performance of light - photos of this may follow.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - chrisr - 05-03-2016

Ah the continuing mystery of the disappearing well nut, will we ever solve it?

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Kelpie - 05-03-2016

Fitted my tank cover. The bar risers mean the matching tank bag is far too close to the bars so rethink needed there. I like my riser cos my arms aren't very long! Very peed off to discover a kidney panel has mysteriously broken off a part of the lug. Have no idea how or when but at least it still does up.

Eee, why are my pics sidey ways?

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - alanfavell - 05-03-2016

I cracked a kidney panel lug - used super glue to fix a stainless washer to it  :good:

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - Kelpie - 05-03-2016

Cheers Favs, been there and done that with my last bike (now belongs to hubby, BSM) which came to me with the same problem. Ironically, I've just bought Proud Vikings panels for BSM's bike. I might steal them one dark night!
