I found out that a piece of 80mm x 30mm wood about 3 feet long is  perfect to chock up the rear end when You have Givi Wingrack2 fitted....it slips under the rack at both sides and over the tyre.....made removing the shock without a centrestand a doddle

I got myself an Abba stand for Christmas  - both wheels off my Mk2 now ready to get new tyres fitted (PR3's )

Time to get that scottoiler fitted as well methinks - it's only been on the garage shelf for 2 years  Rolleyes

The one I took off my FJ is still on the shelf and needs fitting.

It's in my forum description of the bike that it has a Scottoiler fitted, but it actually hasn't.......Such a fraud

They're well worth it though aren't they. When I was a courier I swore it was the best investment I'ld made

Refitted the rear wheel and new tyre PR3 £90 mytyres.co,uk (£10 fitted, balanced, by Stuart @ Adlington Tyre Fitters nr Chorley, Lancs, don't know the guy personally but highly recommended, decent bloke) after cleaning the inner swingarm, shock, axle etc.

Fitted much heavier YZF600 bar end weights (used, £10 fleabay) after tapping out the Renthals with an M16 x 1.5 tap (£6 fleabay again) then cutting off 12mm at each end of the bars, for the shoulder on the YZF jobbies.

I've had problems with excessive hand tingles in both hands in as little as 10mins riding so hope this will solve the issue, if not i'll be looking at head bearings, wheel bearings etc and anything else that may be causing the problem although there's no vibration that I can feel through the bars...............

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - TYREDNGRUMPEE - 11-01-2016

Started preparing my standard rear shock for some cake-balancing pre-load adjustment.

Penetrating oil etc.

The rear isn't working well with the beefed up front end and my current weight.

Thought the task through, considering the necessary spring compressors, C-spanners, work benches etc. and thought I'd better see if any soul here has had any success.

So apparently not.

So instead, next w/e, I will be mainly saving my time, knuckles and money (for a new shock instead of tools), by dropping the front end a tad to match the current, cake induced rear end sag and increasing the damping by a click or two.

Hopefully finding a suitable temporary middle ground and buying me some time to shed a few kilos.

Tipp-Ex mark for my base damping setting.

Put the key in and started her up, first turn  after 4 weeks,  love her and hope to win the lotto soon so I dont have to sell

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - TDMick - 11-01-2016

Started it.

Ran it, nearly dropped the bloody thing moving it around in the front garden.

Taxed it.

Connected the solar charger to my 850 to see if it will carry the battery.

Need to check the 900 electrics to see what current is being drawn by the alarms, clocks etc., when it's turned off.

Anyone know offhand how much juice a datatool alarm draws?

Cheers chrisr, I've had some spongey convex things on for a while but they haven't helped. I'll see how the mods go and if there's no change i'll give these a go too on top of regular grips.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 11-01-2016

dropped my rear shock off for refurbishment at Dunfermline Motorcycles.

The guy there has huge experience with everything from road to motorcross bikes and confirmed what i thought about adjusting preload for my weight (16-17stone)  adjusting the preload just sets up your static sag, but the amount of 'bounce' you feel with a spring that is too weak for the rider's weight (mine is on the limit) is too much and means less than great performance.

A new uprated spring will improve it , but they're not cheap. I thought about going for a new shock with correct spring, but just can't afford it right now.

Fixed a broken wire feeding the horn. I only found out this evening that it had stopped working when a numpty moved across as I was overtaking them Shocked.  Nothing malicious, I just think they fancied a change of view from the wagon they had been following for a while. I suspect the mirrors fitted to their car were purely decorative, I had to remonstrate with them through the medium of mime

Anyways, the wire had broken at the spade connector at the horn. I fitted a Stebel Magnum some years back and extended the feed. I was clearly a bit over zealous with the crimping tool  :isurrender:

Picked up the rear shock from Dunfermline and fitted it.....such a difference, and a great service from DM

Going to look at the forks next, at least change the oil...giving the calipers a once over at the same time

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 14-01-2016

Broke the front end down to refresh fork oil.

Found the Yamaha engine bars are great support points for axle stands.

Fork oil was dirty....flushed them out and draining now....some uneven front pad wear caused by a couple of dirty pistons. Getting a full set of pads all round for the hell of it.

Steering head bearings are good, repacked them with grease

Wheel bearings are good but got few stuck brake disc bobbins to work at.

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - fixitsan - 16-01-2016

Got the forks back together with fresh oil. Serviced all 3 calipers and fitted new pads, stripped the front wheel down to check bearings and give it a clean. Freed up all disc bobbins, and put it all back together again.

Damn the snow because i couldn't road test it !

A busy 6 weeks recovering from the knee operation, HID headlight upgrade, Airblade screen, handguards, finished off today with crash bars & centre stand from Rafal at RM-G in Poland and the new Givi E22n panniers. Just waiting on the footplate to come back from powdercoating and I nearly ready for the good weather.

Not sure on the location of the spotlights though, might send a message to leehenty and pick his brains on some of those extended mounts I've seen on other posts?

Cheers Steve ☺
