Quote:I discovered a small water leak from the thermostat housing gasket.. Need to find an o-ring that size....

Also reassembled and cleaned it after playing with the stator.
The Yamaha OEM is cheap (3 eur), maybe you should get one of these instead?

It should. My Givi sticker has been thereabouts (well, on the other side) for well over a year. Clean the frame well beforehand - I think I used contact cleaner - to remove any polish.

"Dont" use contact cleaner for that....It's an OIL........I alway's use brake cleaner to apply stickers etc! http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p17879?utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=googleshoppingfeed&mkwid=shF5jhR3U_dc&pcrid=66162905543&pkw=&pmt=&gclid=CLPYl9Ofi8oCFVdsGwodw7wN2g

Really?

Maplin state for theirs:
  • Ideal for removing grease, oil, dirt and coatings from switch contacts
  • Clean and degrease components prior to soldering
  • Does not cause corrosion, leaves no residue

Some confusion with the infamous WD40 ???

What Have You Done To Your Tdm Today? - jono49 - 02-01-2016

My fault, I'm getting confused with Wurth's contact oil for dispersing water and crap out of contacts etc! But I stand by what I say about brake cleaner as it's alcohol based and dries quickly, most excellent for finding hairline cracks on solid hydraulic pipes, but a word of warning when it comes to welding or brazing after.....this story and others like abound in welding circles http://www.brewracingframes.com/safety-alert-brake-cleaner--phosgene-gas.html

As a time served welder inc 7 yrs at college plus 4 years B.Sc. (Hons). Most folk think they know enough about welding but don't. Same as bar staff and CO2. The ignorant die Darwin wins.

I only use acetone on the brake disks & other parts which should be free of any grease / oil.

Acetone evaporate quickly so no need to use some welding stuff to dry it...

Not wrong!  My Tig and Mig skills are required in my workshop and here in our yard, people ask me "Am I a welder?" NO I say, there are welders and there are welders! I'm just some bloke who has Mig, Tig and Arc, but compared to those who ARE welders, well... Pays to know where you are in the food chain haha

Have ordered one, same part number as the shaft seal for one of the Yamaha outboard motors !

I rode it !

About 100 miles, into Clackmannanshire, Argyl, Perthshire and home to West Lothian. Even some bits of road were dry and I got a better feel for this nice bike. It's totally new to me and so far I've only ridden it on wet roads....)

The F650 alternator stator got a good exercise, as it turned dark i ran the high beam and brakelight together as much as possible. Will be interesting to see how it's coped when i open it up in a few months.

The water leak only appears in the first minute after starting, I think it's just before when the thermostat starts opening and the water pressure is high, but the coolant level is stable so it's not really an issue Smile

Noticed the clunking of the worn suspension relay arm bush a couple of times when I went over blind crests. Took me a second to register that's all it was !

Not so much what I've done to the  bike (it's not moved out of the garage for a month or so!) as to my kit.

I gave the titfer a full clean and polish.

I've not had a helmet you can take all the bits out of before so yesterday I got out the manual and stripped the Neotec fully, washed all the innards and polished the outside and visors. It all dried overnight and I rebuilt it with silicone oil on the pivots and tucked it up in its cupboard.

Always nice to have a clean......... you know what.

I used to have  a Shoei RF200 which I loved dearly, but the interior slowly fell apart and no amount of sanitisation could freshen it up.....shame.

I took it outside to the garden and my daughter filmed me hitting it with a 3lb hammer to make it fail.....over and over again....and again....no easy task.

We tried the same thing with an old no-name helmet, a plastic polycarbonate thing, it split at the first hit.

That's the thing about Shoei, you can carry out maintainance like that and everything goes back together as it should, I had a shark that was a disaster to get back together and ended up a compromise and I hated it afterwards!

(Is that not one of the styles where you can replace the linings etc?)

It is  Nick, but  the polystyrene was starting to lose it's bobbles, and as that's glued to the inside of the shell i couldn't see what to do.

I should say it was about 20 years old, had a few taps here and there, and I paid £350 at the time. (I couriered in it and toured in it, in every season)  Thats about £1.50 a month for solid noggin protection, which is why i thought it had done it's job and deserved it's retirement. 20 years old and it's fibreglass was still rock solid , impressive Smile

If we're to accept what we're told, we should change our helmet as often as BMW owners change their bikes. (That's a dig at PPI, by the way Smile)
