Hi everyone. This is my first post here. I'm defecting from the Deauville owners forum. The deau got me back into biking 3 years ago after a 20 year layoff and I have really enjoyed it but a little more get up and go was needed. Once I'd overcome my predjudice against chain drive ( the deau and my previous moto guzzy being shafties of course) the TDM seemed like a good bet. I obviously don't want too much excitment going from dullsville to tedium! Any way last week I bought a 2007 black ABS with 6273 miles on it - only 1350 in the last 2 years. Its got all the extras I need - Yamaha panniers and topbox, centre stand, heated grips, handguards, fenda extenda, alarm, HID lights, scotoiler. Only problem was it was in Edinburgh and I live in Nottingham but last week I was on holiday in the Yorkshire Dales. Halfway there so I took a train north and rode the bike back to the holiday cottage. Very surprised how good that little fairing keeps the worst of the (extremely cold) wind off and very comfortable for a 6 fter (but of course you all know that already). Planned to ride it home the next day but of course that's when the snow started (falling horizontally). Seemed like a suicide mission to ride in those conditions so it's staying in the local garage until I can get back up there to collect it, hopefully next week.Fortunately, being an old git, I don't have to do awkward things like going to work so I just have to wait for a slight improvement in the weather. Really looking forward to a great bike and of course this forum.
I'll be back. I might even change my picture to one with the TDM in it.

:welcome:  You made a good choice, my younger brother is on the Deauville forum, 'cplaitch' , he rides a red  700V.
I've been trying to convert him to a better bike for years, from Suzuki teapots, Fazers and Thundercats. He got married, hence the Deau for commuting.

Hi all. This might be my second introduction, as I owned 2005 TDM900a in 2011. I sold the bike, but missed it so much that I again bought a TDM900. This time it is 2008 TDM900 with 9700km (6000 miles) on the clock and I intend not to sell this one that easy!

I'm 6'3" and sat on loads of bikes, quickly comming to the conclusion that I needed an upright-ey tourer thing in which to fit my stupid legs. After trying Versys' and V-strom's This was by miles the most comfortable thing I have sat on. Both feet touch down comfortably but I'm not cramped at all when riding. I left a deposit a few weeks ago and have to drive it up to London from Bournemouth for my very first ride! I haven't ridden anything more powerful than a 125 since I did my test on an xj6. The first thing I have to navigate is a 100 metre loose gravel driveway at a 25 degree decline heading onto an A road. Sweeeeet. I'll report back to let you know I got home safe!

I will be mainly using it for commuting and convincing my girlfriend that bikes aren't that bad by taking her into town on Sunday's and driving like Hoke Colburn. I have been bikeless for a week and forced to take the train. Hated every second of it. I cannot wait to get my wheels!

Something to remember, these buggers are a bit top heavy when you're manoeuvring very slowly and they can get the better of you.
I've dumped mine on it's side three times so far all at zero mph. :bag:

Welcome to Carpe & good luck with the new steed and your first big bike biking. Downhill on gravel - get your weight back and use the back brake only, keep your speed right down. Uphill on gravel is far more fun, but not if there's an A road at the end of it!!!

Hi all, I'm new to this forum, just traded in my Fazer thou for a new TDM 900 and so far I am really impressed with the bike, I've had a Mk 1 & Mk 2 850 before which I used all year round for commuting to and from work, which meant the Fazer stayed in the garage, but after a major off thanks to a "careful" BMW driver the mk 2 was written off and the Fazer became my main bike... so after four years of winter use it was time for a change and the TDM ticked all the box's for what I require for a all year round bike
looking forward to getting out on the bike and meeting a few other TDM owners

I'm home safe and sound. Very well behaved bike! I sat on it and did a few figure 8's to get used to the clutch and everything and was surprised at it's stability. It felt natural instantly. I didn't need any assistance, it didn't grumble on the gravel at all. I will be fitting a new screen ASAP though, I nearly pulled my head off doing a lifesaver on the M23! This one does have some low down snatchiness in the 2-3k rev range but I found that if you're careful and don't dump the clutch or throttle it's not an issue at all, so I think it will be something that comes as second nature after a couple of weeks. I think I could hear the air flap kicking in and out so I might try disconnecting/removing it fairly soon.

I even had an emergency stop on the way home..Some dick not looking pulled out without indicators in slow moving traffic on a dual carraigeway driving into Greenwich. It stops as quick as it goes!
